Deciphering the performance of different surface models for corneal topography

open access: yesOphthalmic and Physiological Optics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To study the performance of different corneal surface models to be used for ray tracing. Models based on geometric surfaces and polynomial fits were compared and the differences discussed. Methods For this simulation study, five characteristic generic surface configurations were generated: (A) perfect biconic, (B) decentred biconic ...

Spectroscopic analysis of bacterial photoreactivation

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, Volume 101, Issue 2, Page 494-504, March/April 2025.
This study investigates the effectiveness of fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy in detecting bacterial photoreactivation. Fluorescence spectroscopy shows limitations, because the intense fluorescence of tryptophan and tyrosine masks fluorescence emitted by thymine molecules.

Fluorescent proteins: A journey from the cell to extreme environments in material science

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Applications of proteins and microorganisms as tools or effectors in material science. Abstract This review presents the progression from the use of fluorescent proteins (FPs) and chromoproteins as bioimaging labels and sensors to the strategic engineering of their properties for robust functionality in synthetic and non‐biological environments ...

Study of radiatively sustained cesium plasmas for solar energy conversion [PDF]

open access: yes
The results of a study aimed at developing a high temperature solar electric converter are reported. The converter concept is based on the use of an alkali plasma to serve as both an efficient high temperature collector of solar radiation as well as the ...

New Geochronological Constraints on the Late Palaeozoic Tarija Basin, Southern Bolivia: Tectonic and Palaeoclimatic Implications

open access: yesTerra Nova, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Carboniferous‐Permian Tarija basin of southern Bolivia evolved under major tectonic and climatic influence. The timing of transition from glacially influenced to arid conditions, after the Gondwanide tectonic event, has been based mainly on palynological correlations.
