Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Improving ultrasonic imaging using novel coded excitation techniques

open access: yes, 2010
In ultrasound imaging, the axial resolution depends on the source bandwidth. Recently, a novel coded excitation and pulse compression technique, known as Resolution Enhancement Compression (REC), was developed.

Spontaneous emission, collective phenomena and the efficiency of plasmon-stimulated photo-excitation

open access: yes
We find that the spontaneous and collective emissions have a large influence on the excitation of two-level absorbers (atoms, molecules) interacting in resonance with the plasmonic mode near the metal nanoparticle.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Visualization of Minute Mechanical-Excitation/Relaxation Wave-front Propagation in Myocardial Tissue

open access: yes, 2010
Unlike the case of skeletal muscle, the direction of myocardial contraction does not coincide with the direction of work necessary to eject the intraventricular blood, contributing to great complexity of the wall deformation sequence of cardiac ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
