Making Sense of Standardised Assessment Data: A Response to Snow et al. (2025)

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT I write in response to the commentary by Snow et al. (2025) on the paper Are Australian students' academic skills declining? Interrogating 25 years of national and international standardised assessment data published in this journal (Larsen 2024).

Nothing to See Here: Researching Non‐Recent Child Abuse in Schools and the Politics of Silence

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While institutions, including schools, have responsibilities to protect children from harm, responses to instances of child sexual abuse have often exhibited avoidance and denial. Recent public inquiries in Australia revealed that some institutions, particularly in the Catholic sector, employed a deliberate strategy of silence which was used ...

Soft Interactions, Rather Than Crowder Size, Determine Deviations From Arrhenius‐Like Kinetics of Phosphofructokinase‐1

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Our study investigates macromolecular crowding effects in the Arrhenius‐like and non‐Arrhenius temperature regimes of the human platelet isoform of phosphofructokinase‐1 (PFKP). The results reveal how PFKP maintains temperature robustness of catalytic activity in differently crowded environments.

Beyond Consultation: A Scoping Review of Guidance for Organisations Practicing Inclusive Research and Co‐Production With People With Cognitive Disability in the Australian Context

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Participatory approaches such as inclusive research and co‐production are recognised as best practice in disability research and service design. These approaches promote inclusion and improve the relevance, quality, and impact of research and services.

Redshifting TADF Emission With a Bora‐Triptycene Lewis Acid

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Bathochromic emission shifting of donor–acceptor and multi‐resonant TADF emitters is achieved by adduct formation with a thia‐bora‐triptycene Lewis acid. TADF properties are retained on adduct formation whilst delivering > 100 nm redshift of the emission.

Consistency Without Uniformity: Context‐Specific Disability Inclusion Action Planning in New South Wales Local Government

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Established under the Disability Inclusion Act 2014 (NSW), Disability Inclusion Action Plans (DIAPs) are public accountability instruments through which New South Wales (NSW) councils translate statutory disability inclusion obligations into place‐based inclusion planning.

Synthesis of Ladder and Flexible Polysulfonimides Directly From Anionic Monomers: Investigating Structure–Property Convergence in Succinonitrile–Polymer Electrolyte Blends

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Direct synthesis of sulfonimide‐based polymers of intrinsic microporosity enables comparison with compositionally similar flexible analogs. Incorporation of a common pore‐filling transport medium drives these fundamentally different polymer architectures toward similar bulk conductivity and mechanical properties while revealing distinct microscopic ion‐

Covalent Immobilisation of PVA‐MA Hydrogels on Plasma‐Activated Coatings: Achieving Superior Adhesion by Reagent‐Free Formation of a Nanoscale Primer Layer

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Robust attachment of hydrogels to solid substrates is critical to success in cell culture where hydrostatic and contractile forces can contribute to delamination of weakly adhered gels. This novel approach forms a nanometer‐scale, reagent‐free hydrogel primer layer to provide improved resistance to delamination of subsequent bulk hydrogel layers in a ...

Sequential Design of Activatable Photosensitizers for Ablation of Glioma Cells in Brain Cancer Tissues

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Gal‐SeNBD‐oleamide is an activatable photosensitizer (PS) with efficient uptake and selective, β‐galactosidase‐triggered activation in cancer cells, enabling efficient photodynamic ablation of glioma cells directly in brain tissue slices from mouse preclinical models and human glioblastoma patients.
