Advanced Exergetic Analysis of Chemical Processes

Volume 6: Emerging Technologies: Alternative Energy Systems; Energy Systems: Analysis, Thermodynamics and Sustainability, 2009
In this paper, a steam methane reforming (SMR) process for the production of hydrogen is studied. The process is based on two chemical reactions (reforming and water-gas-shift reaction). For each component but especially focusing on the chemical reactors, the avoidable part of the exergy destruction is estimated.

Exergetic Analysis and Assessment of Industrial Furnaces

Journal of Energy Resources Technology, 2010
This study presents exergy analysis of a natural gas-fired radiant tube-heating furnace. In the analysis, actual data over a test period of 3 h were used. Exergy efficiencies, destructions, losses, and entropy generation of the furnace were determined. For an average furnace temperature of 666.6°C, average exergy efficiency value was calculated to be 9.

An exergetic analysis of R22 substitution

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2002
This paper deals with the substitution of R22 in an experimental vapour compression plant with the most widely used drop-in substitute, i.e. the zeotropic mixture R407C. A comparative exergetic analysis, carried on with experimental tests, has been presented.

Exergetic analysis of relaxation processes

Journal of Engineering Physics, 1979
It is proposed to use the exergy of a thermodynamic system to analyze relaxation processes. A relation between the relaxation time and the exergy of a thermodynamic system is obtained.

Exergetic analysis of glucose metabolism

International Journal of Exergy, 2013
The aim of this work is to analyse exergetically the glucose metabolism, which involves the steps of Glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and the Oxidative Phosphorylation. In order to achieve these goals, a methodology for the exergetic analysis of metabolism is presented.

Energetic and Exergetic Analysis of Building Cogeneration Systems

ASME 2008 2nd International Conference on Energy Sustainability, Volume 1, 2008
This study deals with types of micro cogeneration (or micro combined heat and power, MCHP) systems and reviews energetic and exergetic analysis of MCHP systems, which are also called building cogeneration systems. These are classified as micro and macro cogeneration systems and figured within subgroups. Previously conducted studies on exergy and energy

Exergetic analysis of compound mechanical refrigeration systems

Heat Recovery Systems and CHP, 1987
Abstract An exergetic analysis is conducted on compound mechanical refrigeration systems. Plant exergetic efficiencies, equipment irreversibilities, and their sensitivity to main system parameters are evaluated for several typical component arrangements, for R12 refrigerant.

An exergetic analysis of a membrane desalination system

Desalination, 2010
Abstract In this paper, the exergetic analysis of a seawater membrane-based desalination plant has been carried out. The desalination plant has been described in detail, then the exergy of the various saline water streams has been determined and a comprehensive analysis towards the exergy distribution of the major process components has been ...

Choice of a reference state for exergetic analysis

Energy, 1990
Abstract The concepts of thermomechanical exergy, chemical exergy, restricted dead state, and unrestricted dead state are described. A detailed discussion is presented on identification of the reference state. The influence of commonly-used methods on evaluation of the overall exergy is analysed.
