Exergy analysis of cryogenic air separation
Energy Conversion and Management, 1998An exergy analysis is performed to analyse the possibilities of fuel saving in the cryogenic distillation process, which is the main method of air separation. It is shown that more than half of the exergy loss takes place in the liquefaction unit and almost one-third in the air compression unit.

Fundamentals of Exergy Analysis
2017Conservation laws are important tools in analysis of thermal processes. In engineering practice, substance conservation law and energy conservation law are commonly used. Exergy analysis based on first and second law of thermodynamics are still rarely applied in engineering and industrial practices.

Thermophysics and Aeromechanics, 2009
An exergy analysis of possible regimes of energy supply to the air flow in the ramjet duct is carried out. A condition for the supply of a given heat amount to supersonic flow and a condition of the passage across the sound velocity are obtained for a duct with variable cross-sectional area.

EXERGY ANALYSIS OF HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS
2007Publisher Summary This chapter presents energy and exergy analyses of an air-source heat pump system. Exergy losses for each component of the system are identified, while the potential for efficiency improvements is described. The idea of using a heat engine in a reverse mode as a heat pump came into common use mainly for refrigeration. They have the

EXERGY ANALYSIS OF STEAM POWER PLANTS
2007Steam power plants are widely utilized throughout the world for electricity generation, and coal is often used to fuel these plants. Although the world's existing coal reserves will be sufficient for about two centuries, the technology largely used today to produce electricity from coal causes significant negative environmental impacts. Of the analysis

Exergy analyses of fuel cell systems
2007Energy is an important factor in interactions between nature and society and is considered a key resource for economic development. Environmental concerns encompass a range of pollutants and hazards to health and the environment. Technologies using fossil fuels are major sources of air pollutants and contribute significantly to environmental concerns ...

In this chapter, an overall view of energy matrices and embodied energy, with and without balance of system (BOS) is discussed so that the net useful electrical energy available over the life of the PV system can be evaluated. As we know that the quality of energy is more important than quantity.

EXERGY ANALYSIS OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS
2007Exergy analysis is usually used to determine exergy efficiencies and identify and quantify exergy destructions so that directions for improved efficiency can be determined. This chapter presents exergy analyses of several renewable energy systems including solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, solar ponds, wind turbines, and geothermal district heating ...

Exergy Analysis of Plastic Waste Management
2014Using material flow analysis (MFA) and exergy analysis, two competing scenarios for the management of municipal plastic waste arising from private households are evaluated. In Scenario A there is no source-separation of plastics, and the mixed waste stream is sent for incineration to a waste-to-energy plant (energy recovery). In Scenario B plastics are
