Postprandial Changes in the Exhalation Rate of Radon Produced in Vivo
Science, 1978The rate of exhalation of radon by persons with long-standing radium burdens increases about twofold shortly after a meal. The increase is short-lived and "normal" values are regained in 1.5 to 2 hours. The effect may account in part for the poor reproducibility in estimates of the freely emanating part of the radium content.

Radon exhalation rate in building materials
International Journal of Radiation Applications and Instrumentation. Part D. Nuclear Tracks and Radiation Measurements, 1991Radon is present in trace amounts almost everywhere on the earth, being distributed in the soil, the ground water and in the lower atmosphere. Radon can originate from a deeply burried deposit and can migrate to the surface of earth by diffusion and transport process.

Radon Exhalation Rate from Various Building Materials
Health Physics, 1993Solid-state alpha-track detectors using cellulose nitrate films were used to measure the radon exhalation rates from building materials. The radon flux emitted from the surface of the building material was measured by placing an inverted cup on the top of the building material. Cellulose nitrate film was placed within the cup.

The Determination of Radon Exhalation Rates
Health Physics, 1983The exhalation of radon from porous materials like mining wastes and building materials can be determined by studying the growth of radon activity in vessels containing samples of the materials. It is demonstrated that the initial part of the activity growth curve determines the total free exhalation rate of the sample used, independently of container ...

Measurement of Thoron Exhalation Rates from Building Materials
Health Physics, 2014Thoron (220Rn) exhalation from building materials has become increasingly recognized as a potential source for radiation exposure in dwellings. However, contrary to radon (220Rn), limited information on thoron exposure is available. The purpose of this study is to develop a test method for the determination of the thoron exhalation rate from building ...

In situ measurements of thoron exhalation rate in Okinawa, Japan
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2010Thoron exhalation rates from the ground surface were measured at 57 sites on Okinawa Island, Japan, using a ZnS(Ag) scintillation detector equipped with photomultiplier. The arithmetic means ± SD, median ± SD, minimum and maximum of the rates (unit: Bq m(-2) s(-1)) were estimated to be 1.9 ± 1.4, 1.6 ± 0.3, 0.04 and 6.2, respectively.

Influence of air stability and metabolic rate on exhaled flow
Indoor Air, 2014The characteristics of contaminant transport and dispersion of exhaled flow from a manikin are thoroughly studied in this article with respect to the influence of two important factors: air stability conditions and metabolic rates. Four cases with the combinations of stable and neutral conditions as well as lower (1.2 met) and higher (2 met) metabolic ...

Radioactivity and radon exhalation rates of building materials in The Netherlands
Science of The Total Environment, 1985About 140 samples of building materials have been analysed by gamma spectrometry for their Ra-226, Th-232 and K-40 concentrations. The radon exhalation rate was measured from concrete slabs of different composition including fly-ash components. The activity concentrations of materials containing soil products, like clay bricks and concrete, proved to ...

Intercomparison on the measurement of the thoron exhalation rate from building materials
Journal of Environmental Radioactivity, 2021Thoron (220Rn) exhalation from building materials has become increasingly recognized as a potential source for radiation exposure in dwellings. However, contrary to radon (222Rn), limited information on thoron exposure is available. As a result no harmonized test procedures for determining thoron exhalation from building materials are available at ...

Radon and Thoron exhalation rate map in Japan
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2008Measurements of radon and thoron exhalation rates have been done using the radon and thoron exhalation rate measuring instrument adopting the accumulation method. We obtained the 111 data in the 40 sites of the 14 prefectures in Japan. The arithmetic average value of the radon and thoron exhalation rates by all 111 data were obtained to be 8.6 mBq⋅m−2 ...
