Histology of the exocrine pancreas

Microscopy Research and Technique, 1997
The morphology of the exocrine secretory unit of the pancreas, i.e. the pancreatic acinus, is reviewed. The histological features of the acini and their relation with the duct system are described. The acinar three-dimensional architecture was studied by means of different ultrastructural techniques, some of which are complementary.

Heterogeneity of the exocrine pancreas

American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 1989
The exocrine pancreas is generally considered to be a homogeneous organ at the morphological and functional levels. Recent work, reviewed here, has provided multiple reasons to question this. Morphologically, differences have been found in cell size and digestive enzyme content in "peri-" vs. "teleinsular" acini by methods including acinar separation,
