Alternative Splicing Alterations in Patients With Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis: Link to the Disruption of TAR DNA‐Binding Protein 43 kDa Functions

open access: yesNeurology and Clinical Neuroscience, Volume 13, Issue 3, Page 187-194, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neuromuscular disease that causes degeneration of both upper and lower motor neurons. TAR DNA‐binding protein 43 kDa (TDP‐43) is mislocalized in the motor neurons of patients with ALS. TDP‐43 regulates RNA metabolism, including alternative splicing.

A Novel Role for Coilin in Vertebrate Innate Immunity

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 8, 30 April 2025.
In this work, the coilin protein was reduced in human cells, and a novel zebrafish model was followed by treatment with an inducer (lipopolysaccharide) of the innate immunity pathway. RNA sequencing techniques were used to identify differential gene expression and, along with a neutrophil migration assay, demonstrated that coilin promotes a robust ...
