Quaternary topological BiSbSe2Te are synthesized and demonstrates a broad spectral band photoresponse, ranging from infrared to terahertz and to millimeter waves, with a particular excellence on detection of low quantum energy terahertz photons. The observed photoresponse is attributed to the excitation of plasmonic nonequilibrium electrons originating

2D van der Waals (vdW) materials MM′Te2 with broken symmetry attract great interest for unique magnetic structures and optical‐phonon‐induced phase transitions. We report mechanically exfoliable TaFeTe2 single crystals, exhibiting spin‐glass behavior, intrinsic unsaturated negative magnetoresistance up to 9 T, self‐powered internal photocurrent, and ...

The six years Robert Louis Stevenson spent in the Pacific region offer a particularly stark contrast with his received image as an uncommitted romancer (and hence, in the context of British colonialism, as a tacit supporter of imperialism).

Why Yellow Fever Isn't Flattering: A Case Against Racial Fetishes [PDF]
Most discussions of racial fetish center on the question of whether it is caused by negative racial stereotypes. In this paper I adopt a different strategy, one that begins with the experiences of those targeted by racial fetish rather than those who ...

Beyond the Non‐Hermitian Skin Effect: Scaling‐Controlled Topology from Exceptional‐Bound Bands
ABSTRACT We establish a novel mechanism for topological transitions in non‐Hermitian systems that are controlled by the system size. Based on a new paradigm known as exceptional‐bound (EB) band engineering, its mechanism hinges on the unique critical scaling behavior near an exceptional point, totally unrelated to the well‐known non‐Hermitian skin ...

Control Strategies in Guanine Biocrystallization
Biological guanine crystals produce spectacular photonic phenomena in animals and hold great promise as new, sustainable optical materials. We review how organisms precisely control the structure, morphologies, and resulting optical properties of these crystals using a set of ingenious ‘design’ strategies, including control of pH, template‐directed ...

Behavioral economics: science or exoticism?
While studying economics as a science and an active sphere of human activity, scientists aim to give consistency to their knowledge, ensure that they are adequate and constructive.

Visual witness: a critical rereading of Graciela Iturbide’s photography [PDF]
This article underlines the importance of Latin American photography at a time when the visual turn of Hispanism is increasingly evident. At the time of writing, Graciela Iturbide is one of the foremost living photographers in Latin America. This article

Concentration gradients can serve as a universal platform for breaking spatial inversion symmetry. We demonstrate this concept by observing nonreciprocal electrical transport—a sensitive probe of inversion‐symmetry breaking—in the iron‐based superconductor Sm1111 with an engineered hydrogen gradient.
