Performance of expanded graphite and expanded milled‐graphite fillers in thermosetting resins

Polymer Composites, 2005
AbstractEpoxy/expanded graphite (EG) and polyester/EG composites were prepared with the aid of sonication, while epoxy/expanded‐milled graphite (epoxy/milled‐EG) and polyester/expanded‐milled graphite (polyester/milled‐EG) composites were prepared on a three‐roll paint mill.

Preparation and characterization of phenolic foam reinforced with expandable graphite and expanded graphite

Journal of Cellular Plastics, 2017
In this paper, two kinds of phenolic foams modified with expandable graphite and expanded graphite were prepared and the effect of particles on the mechanical properties and structure of the foams has been discussed. The mechanical properties, density and morphology of reinforced phenolic foams were studied.

Polyphenylene sulfide- expanded graphite nanocomposites

Journal of Thermoplastic Composite Materials, 2016
Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS)-expanded graphite (ExGr) conducting nanocomposites have been prepared by powder mixing and in situ polymerization routes after sonicating ExGr particles in acetone. Synthesized PPS has been used to make powder mixed composites.

Absorption Process of Expanded Graphite

2010 4th International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering, 2010
Different expansion volume of expanded graphite was used for oil absorption experiments. The structure of expanded graphite was studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and optical microscope before oil-absorption and after oil-absorption. It was found that viscosity, expansion volume and particle size are the three key factors for the higher ...

Graining of thermo-expanded graphite

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2018
Abstract The results of investigation of the process of graining thermo-expanded graphite in the epicyclic granulator have been presented. Procedure of graining and the sequence of grains’ formation have been described. It has been obtained the experimental dependencies of the grains’ fractional distribution and their strength against epicyclic ωρ ...

On lower-nitrogen expandable graphite

Materials Research Bulletin, 2000
Abstract The intercalation reaction of a mixture of HNO 3 and acetic anhydride to form expandable graphite was investigated. Expandable graphites were prepared from the intercalation compounds (GICs) by rapid heating up to 900°C. The effects of reaction conditions on the quality of the expandable graphites were studied and the optimum conditions for

Expanded graphite offers new opportunities

Plastics, Additives and Compounding, 2008
Graphite has been overlooked in the past as additive for polymers. C. Ciallella, T.M. Gruenberger, E. Grivei and N. Probst of Timcal explain why a reconsideration is required.

Fabrication of polyethylene/graphite nanocomposite from modified expanded graphite

Polymer International, 2006
AbstractA novel process was employed to fabricate a polymer/expanded graphite nanocomposite by modifying the conducting filler expanded graphite (EG) with unsaturated polyester resin (UPR). The modified expanded graphite (MEG) was prepared from EG in which the graphite nanosheets, already present in EG, were wrapped and isolated by the UPR during ...

Nanoporous Graphite Materials Produced by Ball-Milling Expanded Graphite

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Expanded graphite was ball-milled for 80 h in a high-energy mill (planetary-type) under an air atmosphere. The products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy. The results show that ball-milling EG produces nanoporous graphite powders.

Size Effect of Expandable Graphite

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Using three natural graphites with different particle size, 35, 50 and 80 mesh, as raw materials, expandable graphites were prepared by intercalating, water-washing and drying the natural graphites. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope and Raman spectroscopy.
