Evidence of a local BCC‐type coordination of cobalt in FCC taenite of iron meteorites

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Ni, Co, and Fe K‐edge X‐ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) measurements were performed, revealing an unexpected local structure around Co in well‐known iron and stony‐iron meteorites. Cobalt is enriched in kamacite but remains in taenite at concentrations of at least 0.3 atom%.

Resistance Rapid Heating of Aluminum Coatings in an Extreme High Vacuum–Adequate Atmosphere for Hot Stamping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 12, 17 June 2026.
The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Response of laser power bed fusion manufactured austenitic stainless steel towards combined heat treatment and low-temperature thermochemical surface strengthening

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this work, a combination of heat treatment (HT) and surface strengthening is explored to adjust the residual stress distribution in 316L stainless steel manufactured by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF).

Evaluation of Mechanical, Thermal, Rheological, and Biocompatibility Properties of Additively Manufactured Metal‐Reinforced Biocomposites Optimized by Reinforcement Ratios and Printing Parameters

open access: yesPolymer Composites, Volume 47, Issue 11, Page 10258-10281, 10 June 2026.
Schematic illustration of PLA/316L stainless steel composite filament production via fused deposition modeling, demonstrating the trade‐off between stainless steel content, mechanical enhancement, and biocompatibility. ABSTRACT Polylactic acid (PLA) is a biodegradable thermoplastic widely used in biomedical devices; however, its inherent brittleness ...

Determination of Stress Profiles in Expanded Austenite by Combining Successive Layer Removal and GI-XRD

open access: yes, 2014
The present work deals with the evaluation of the residual-stress profile in expanded-austenite by successive removal steps using GI-XRD. Preliminary results indicate stresses of several GPa's from 111 and 200 diffraction lines.

Characterization of Macro/Microstructure and Corrosion Resistance of Austenitic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Cladding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 11, 3 June 2026.
Cladding is a proven method that boosts the surface qualities of mechanical parts by applying a layer of more durable material over a base substrate. This work responds to the needs of offshore and pressure vessels sectors by focusing on cladding a super austenitic steel onto low‐carbon steel through gas tungsten arc welding.

Modelling the X-ray powder diffraction of nitrogen-expanded austenite using the Debye formula

open access: yes, 2008
Stress-free and homogeneous samples of nitrogen-expanded austenite, a defect-rich f.c.c. structure with a high interstitial nitrogen occupancy (between 0.36 and 0.61), have been studied using X-ray powder diffraction and Debye simulations.

Investigation of effects of aluminum additions on microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of ultra-high strength and vanadium bearing dual-phase steels

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The effects of aluminum (Al) additions (0.04, 0.4, and 0.8 wt%) on the microstructural evolution, tensile properties, and sheared-edge ductility of dual phase (DP) steels were investigated.

Self‐Expanding Cardiovascular Stents: Potentials and Challenges of Shape Memory Biomaterials

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, Volume 114, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Cardiovascular diseases affect a large portion of the global population and remain leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Endovascular stenting, a minimally invasive procedure, enables the insertion and deployment of stents to restore arterial patency without open surgery.
