Effect of Olive Waste Ash as a Partial Replacement of Cement on the Volume Stability of Cement Paste

open access: yesInfrastructures
Over the last decades, concrete has been excessively prone to cracks resulting from shrinkage. These dimensional changes can be affected by the incorporation of supplementary cementitious materials.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Automated and scalable expansion of human liver organoids for translational applications

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine
Background Human tissue-derived organoids hold strong potential for personalized medicine and cell therapy, but this requires large cell quantities. Conventional organoid culture systems remain labor-intensive, are difficult to scale, and lack process ...

Bacterial Spermosphere Inoculants Alter N. benthamiana-Plant Physiology and Host Bacterial Microbiome

open access: yesPlants
In this study, we investigated the interplay between the spermosphere inoculum, host plant physiology, and endophytic compartment (EC) microbial community. Using 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing of root, stem, and leaf endophytic compartment communities,

Bantu expansion

open access: yesThe Encyclopedia of Ancient History: Asia and Africa, 2023
The Bantu expansion is the initial spread of the Bantu languages and the people speaking them from their original homeland in the border zone of modern‐day Nigeria and Cameroon over major parts of eastern and central Africa. This entry reviews the key evidence from historical linguistics, evolutionary genetics, and archaeology for this major demic ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Targeted expansion of cytotoxic T cells using IL-12 and CD137L supplementation enhances antitumor efficacy

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Oncology
The increasing success of allogenic Vδ2 T cell immunotherapy for the treatment of cancer has been demonstrated in recent studies. Vδ2 T cells recognize phosphoantigens, intermediates of the mevalonate pathway, through butyrophilin molecules, and they are

Fourier Expansions [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Glasgow Mathematical Association, 1952
The theory of operational solutions of differential equations in applied mathematics suggests a method of developing the theory of Fourier and allied series that is simpler for ordinary applications than the classical development. It may be useful to those whose interests lie in such applications rather than in the deeper analytical processes ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.
