Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

The Effects of Loss Aversion on Trade Policy and the Anti-Trade Bias Puzzle [PDF]

open access: yes
We study the implications of loss aversion for trade policy determination and show how it allows us to explain a number of important and puzzling features of trade policy.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

IFRS9 Expected Credit Loss Estimation: Advanced Models for Estimating Portfolio Loss and Weighting Scenario Losses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Estimation of portfolio expected credit loss is required for IFRS9 regulatory purposes. It starts with the estimation of scenario loss at loan level, and then aggregated and summed up by scenario probability weights to obtain portfolio expected loss ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Tax-Loss Trading and Wash Sales [PDF]

open access: yes
An analysis of trades in the Finnish stock market around the turn of the year shows that Finnish investors tend to realize losses more than gains towards the end of December.

Hydrostatic pressure activates HIF‐1α via β‐catenin to promote stemness in breast cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
To mimic the elevated intestinal fluid pressure in breast cancers, we loaded human breast cancer cells (MCF‐7, MDA‐MB‐453, and BT‐474) to 50 mmHg hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure exposure upregulated HIF‐1α and induced stemness in MCF‐7 and BT‐474 cells.

Expected shortfall and Harell-Davis estimators of value-at-risk

open access: yesQuantitative Methods in Economics, 2010
The most widely used estimator for the Value-at-Risk is thecorresponding order statistic. It relies on a single historic observation date, therefore it can exhibit high variability and provides little information aboutthe distribution of losses around the

Adolescent bereavement and social support perception of need according to gender [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Plan BIn the empirical studies that have specifically addressed adolescent grief recovery, the issue of gender differences in perceptions of social support following bereavement has not been thoroughly examined. The purpose of this study was to determine
