Decision Uncertainty from Strict Preferences in Sequential Search Scenarios with Multiple Criteria

open access: yesMathematics
The standard expected utility model applied by economists and decision scientists assumes both that decision makers (DMs) are rational and that their information retrieval behavior and choices are determined by the observed and potential values of the ...

Understanding Russian aggression towards Georgia

open access: yesPolitikon, 2012
Did Russia initiate conflict with Georgia in an attempt to restrain Georgia from formally joining the Western coalition, or was the decision more complex? What did Russia hope to gain from initiating conflict? What value did Russia assign to maintaining

CONSISTENT DYNAMICE CHOICE AND NON-EXPECTED UTILITY PREFERENCES [PDF]

open access: yes
Pursuing works from Sarin and Wakker (1998), we study how NonExpected Utility models could be consistently applied to multi-stage decision problems. Concerning multiple priors model, we remove the argument that dynamic consistency, consequentialism and ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Resolving inconsistencies in utility measurement under risk: Tests of generalizations of expected utility [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper explores biases in the elicitation of utilities under risk and the contribution that generalizations of expected utility can make to the resolution of these biases.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

How to Model Lexical Priority

open access: yesErgo, An Open Access Journal of Philosophy
A moral requirement R1 is said to be lexically prior to a moral requirement R2 just in case we are morally obliged to uphold R1 at the expense of R2—no matter how many times R2 must be violated thereby. While lexical priority is a feature of many ethical

Bankruptcy and expected utility maximization [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Economic Dynamics and Control, 1994
This paper introduces a utility formulation to the well-known gambler's ruin problem. An agent who maximizes lifetime expected utility has to tradeoff short-term utility against longer-term survival prospects. The optimal tradeoff is established by way of characterizing the agents' value and optimal policy functions.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Filozofická reflexe omezené racionality (Philosophical Reflection of Bounded Rationality )

open access: yesOstium, 2017
Research of rationality represents area of interaction between philosophy and economics. Development of neuroscience and advances in scientific research lead to another common characteristic – gradual loss of competence to comment on results of ...
