Differences in Tongue Muscle Activity During Chewing of Rice With Various Textures
Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.During chewing, tongue muscle activity increased in the late stage for softer, wetter and more cohesive boluses, showing a pattern distinct from the masseter and suprahyoid muscles. These findings suggest that tongue muscle activity is modulated according to bolus properties and may contribute to bolus gathering, shaping and transport.
