Improving reproducibility and translational potential of mouse models: lessons from studying leishmaniasis

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Leishmaniasis is a complex disease caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Leishmania, which are transmitted by phlebotomine sand flies. The clinical manifestations of leishmaniasis are diverse, ranging from self-healing cutaneous lesions to fatal ...

ASCA: analysis of multivariate data obtained from an experimental design

open access: yes, 2005
Recently analysis of variance (ANOVA)-simultaneous component analysis (ASCA) has been introduced as an explorative tool for the analysis of multivariate data with an underlying experimental design [Smilde et al. Bioinformatics 2005; 21: 3043-3048].

Prognosis of Long‐Term Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy and the Impact of Combined Continuous Intravenous Sodium Infusion Therapy

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients requiring long‐term continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) generally have poor prognoses. This study evaluated whether adding continuous intravenous sodium infusion (cIVNa) is associated with improved hemodynamics and outcomes in patients undergoing long‐term CRRT for ≥ 7 days.

Experimental Analysis of ViLTE Service

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Long-term evolution (LTE) is a broadband wireless cellular system currently available in about 200 countries. From the mobile network operator point of view, one of the most appealing characteristics of LTE is the possibility of providing the users with mobile broadband services like voice over LTE and video over LTE (ViLTE), with strict quality of ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Research on Dehumidifier Performance of Solid Adsorbent for Temperature and Humidity Independent Control

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2013
The adsorption dehumidification performance of Silica gel, zeolite 4A and 13X molecular sieve as a solid desiccant material in a given fixed bed is experimentally studied for different combinations and filling.

Reinforcement: Food signals the time and location of future food

open access: yes, 2011
It has long been understood that food deliveries may act as signals of future food location, and not only as strengtheners of prefood responding as the law of effect suggests. Recent research has taken this idea further—the main effect of food deliveries,

Spatial 3D Matérn Priors for Fast Whole-Brain fMRI Analysis

open access: yes, 2021
Bayesian whole-brain functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) analysis with three-dimensional spatial smoothing priors has been shown to produce state-of-the-art activity maps without pre-smoothing the data.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
