The basis for combination chemotherapy is not the carefully premeditated interaction of multiple agents which can sometimes be demonstrated to be of benefit in the somewhat artificial mouse tumour systems. The real basis is the uncertainty concerning the sensitivity of the different subpopulations ofcells in the tumour to be treated.
