Development of Mouse-Tumor Model Using Prostate Cancer (PC3) Cell Line for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) Ablation

open access: yesProstate Cancer
High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a noninvasive modality that is gaining prominence for the localized treatment of malignant tumors. Most current HIFU research utilizes mouse tumor models, where selection of appropriate mouse breed is important

AN EXPERIMENTAL FACILITY FOR SEQUENTIAL DECODING [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
Abstract : This report describes the system design and implementation of a facility for the experimental study of sequential decoding that may be used at M.I.T. by graduate researchers in communications theory. Flexibility and ease of use are the primary requirements of this system.

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...

A novel knockout mouse model to assess the impact of one-copy loss of Hnrnpk in CD4 + T cells in chronically inflamed skin as a prelude to CTCL

open access: yesScientific Reports
Cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCLs), particularly Mycosis fungoides (MF), frequently exhibit deletions and reduced expression of HNRNPK in CD4 + T cells.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Experimental facilities for adaptive façades characterization

open access: yes, 2015
Adaptive façades, components and systems are very promising technologies to improve energy and environmental performance of building. The characterization and analysis of their thermophysical and optical behaviour is very relevant in order to increase the effectiveness of these systems and to promote both their development and implementation ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.
