Un quartier à soi : Demolició, le beau Raval de Virginie Manuel

open access: yesCatalonia, 2019
The southern part of El Raval, former Barcelona’s Barrio Chino, is intrinsically linked, in the city's imagination, to the world of an eternal lumpenproletariat, bound to a district of infinite possibilities, open both to the bourgeois canaille and the ...

Monte Carlo simulations on rare-earth Holmium ultra-thin films

open access: yes, 2009
Motivated by recent experimental results in ultra-thin helimagnetic Holmium films, we have performed an extensive classical Monte Carlo simulation of films of different thickness, assuming a Hamiltonian with six inter-layer exchange constants.

Carcasses, birdsongs and space dogs: aesthetics of representing dead and extinct animals in experimental film

open access: yesJournal of Aesthetics & Culture
Cinematic (after)images of dead and extinct animals can be transformative, providing aesthetic encounters with and helping process grief, loss and trauma.

Document, surface, image-pensée. Radio Piece (Hong Kong) de David Claerbout

open access: yesFocales, 2017
This article explores how Belgian artist David Claerbout, in his recent video Radio Piece (Hong Kong), refers to photography in order to propose a critique of the apparently seamless virtual space created by means of 3D modeling software.

A film model for heat and mass transfer with fog formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
An analysis is presented of a binary film with fog formation and a negligible induced velocity (traditionally referred to as “Stefan—Nusselt flow”).

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Dynamics of reflection of ultracold atoms from a periodic 1D magnetic lattice potential

open access: yes, 2009
We report on an experimental study of the dynamics of the reflection of ultracold atoms from a periodic one-dimensional magnetic lattice potential. The magnetic lattice potential of period 10 \textmu m is generated by applying a uniform bias magnetic ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Superconducting film with randomly magnetized dots: A realization of the 2D XY model with random phase shifts

open access: yes, 2010
We consider a thin superconducting film with randomly magnetized dots on top of it. The dots produce a disordered pinning potential for vortices in the film.
