Experimental modal analysis of bows

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008
The vibration performances of bow instruments are usually studied developing numerical and experimental modal analyses of the body of the instrument or of their parts (tailpiece, bridge, fingerboard, neck). The dynamic contribution of the bow is less considered, but the mutual actions generated between bow and strings are conditioned by the mechanical ...

Trends in experimental modal analysis

Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, 1987
Abstract The scope of this paper is to comment on current trends and new developments in the field of experimental modal analysis. The first section covers modal measurement and estimation procedures, with special emphasis on the use and limitations of recent techniques such as multiple input processing, total least square, global time- and frequency

A Separation Modal Method of Experimental Modal Analysis

The Shock and Vibration Digest, 1991
The test is carried out in a laboratory and the testing sample, which is a cylindrical thin-shell made of a composite, is in a free-free state.

Nonlinearity in experimental modal analysis

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2001
Summary: Modal analysis is established as one of the fundamental strategies in approaching structural dynamic problems. Despite its universal appeal, it is fundamentally a linear theory and cannot be applied to significantly nonlinear systems without incurring substantial difficulties in implementation and interpretation of results.

The context of experimental modal analysis

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2001
The basic principle of describing a structure9s dynamic behaviour in terms of its vibration modes was first explored by Rayleigh over a century ago. Since then, engineers have sought to harness this powerful approach as a means of solving a wide range of practical problems in structural dynamics.

Modal Truncation in Experimental Modal Analysis

Some methods in experimental modal analysis rely on a finite set of modes and they neglect the higher modes. However, this approach causes a truncation of the modal decomposition and the modal truncation introduces errors of unknown magnitude. In this paper the effect of modal truncation is investigated on a test specimen in the laboratory. It is found

Experimental analysis of the modal evolution in photonic lanterns

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2017
We experimentally analyze the modal evolution in a 10 mode-selective photonic lantern along the tapered transition using a swept-wavelength interferometer. Mode conversion to HOMs occurs closer to the beginning of the photonic lantern taper.

ESS RFQ Experimental Modal Analysis

2022
The European Spallation Source-ESS, which is currently under construction and commissioning at Lund, Sweden is a neutron source that consists of a 2 GeV linear accelerator (LINAC) accelerating a proton beam to a solid Tungsten (W) target. The proton beam is produced by the Ion Source (ISRC) and transported through the Low Energy Beam Transport (LEBT ...

EXPERIMENTAL MODAL ANALYSIS OF LARGE STRUCTURES BY SUBSTRUCTURING

Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, 1997
Abstract An experimental modal coupling method is investigated by applying it to a large structure tested by parts. The method is based on testing different parts of the structure with their interface coordinates loaded with rigid, heavy dummy masses.

Experimental modal analysis of a synthetic composite femur

Experimental Mechanics, 2004
In this paper we describe the experimental characterization of the modal parameters of a synthetic composite femur model widely used in biomechanical research studies. The objective of the experimental procedure was to identify the natural frequencies and mode shapes of an unconstrained (free-free) femur.
