Cytoarchitecture in cultured rat neocortex explants

International Journal of Developmental Neuroscience, 1988
AbstractNeocortex explants obtained from 6‐day‐old rat pups and cultured in a serum‐free medium from 5 hr to 13 days in vitro (DIV) show preservation of cytoarchitectural characteristics. Major changes in the size of the explants and their layers occur during the first 2 DIV.

Chapter 6 Explant Culture: Pancreatic Islets

1980
Publisher Summary The chapter discusses the development of various methods for the isolation and tissue culture of islets and several of these techniques are applied to culture of the human islets. In particular, the potential usefulness of the endocrine pancreas for transplantation purposes has stimulated attempts to store human islets in tissue ...

Explant Cultures of White Adipose Tissue

2008
Obesity is characterized by increased adiposity of visceral and subcutaneous depots as well as other organs, including the vasculature. These fat depots secrete various hormone-like proteins implicated in metabolic homeostasis (e.g., adiponectin, resistin), the central control of appetite (e.g., leptin) and the increased production of cytokines.

Porcine RPE/Choroidal Explant Cultures

2019
The cultivation of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)-choroid explants gives the opportunity to study the RPE and Bruch's membrane in its natural environment. Porcine eyes are easily available and an excellent model for human RPE. Explants are prepared less than 4 h postmortem from cooled eyes and are transferred in fixation rings.

Culture of Mouse Embryonic Foregut Explants

2014
The ability to culture embryonic organ rudiments and follow their development ex vivo has helped to understand how tissues are constructed and what cellular and biological events are important in this process. Here we outline a technique for isolation and ex vivo growth of foregut explants from E8.5 mouse embryos.

Sterilisation of explants and cultures with sodium dichloroisocyanurate

Plant Growth Regulation, 1996
The effectiveness of Sodium dichloroisocyanurate as a disinfectant for micropropagated plants was assessed. Analysis of the microbial flora of micropropagated plants showed a wide range of bacteria with predominantly Pseudomonas, Xanthomonas and Actinomycetes.

Dopaminergic neurons in explants of substantia nigra in culture

Journal of Neurobiology, 1973
AbstractExplants of substantia nigra and corpus striatum obtained from newborn rats were maintained in tissue culture for up to six days. Explants of substantia nigra exhibited a net increase in the ability to take up H3‐dopamine, a process associated with the dopaminergic neurons; in contrast, the explants of corpus striatum showed a rapid loss in ...

Explant Culture of Human and Rabbit Articular Chondrocytes

Connective Tissue Research, 1978
Copious outgrowth of chondrocytes was obtained by explantation from each of three rabbit and one surgically-resected human articular cartilages pretreated briefly with trypsin. In lapine explants, ascorbate (40 micrograms/ml) increased DNA three-fold over control values and resulted in deposition of a chondroid matrix.

Cell and explant culture of olfactory chemoreceptor cells

Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 1985
An in vitro system for the study of maturation of rat and chick embryonic olfactory receptor cells is presented. A variety of dissociating agents, culture media and substrata were tried in attempts to obtain a preparation of mature living olfactory receptor cells readily visible in the microscope.

Synchronized neuronal activities in neocortical explant cultures

Experimental Brain Research, 1989
Intracellular recordings revealed that in neocortical explant cultures prepared on the day of birth and examined 3-6 weeks later, neurons mature and establish complex synaptic relationships that lead to spontaneous and triggered synchronous discharge. The spontaneous synchronous activity took several forms, including periodic generation of epileptiform
