Cultures as networks of cultural traits: A unifying framework for measuring culture and cultural distances [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Making use of the information from the World Value Survey (WVS), and operationalizing a definition of national culture that encompasses both the relevance of specific cultural traits and the interdependence among them, this paper proposes a methodology to reveal the latent structure of national culture and to measure cultural distance between countries

Macrophage‐derived MLKL in alcohol‐associated liver disease: Regulation of phagocytosis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
EtOH causes leaky gut allowing bacteria and PAMPs into the liver, resulting in hepatic inflammation and injury. We demonstrate that LPS induces STAT1‐mediated expression and phosphorylation of MLKL in macrophages and identify a novel function that myeloid MLKL translocates to phagosomes and lysosomes and regulates phagocytosis, which contributes to the

Segmental migration of trunk neural crest: time-lapse analysis reveals a role for PNA-binding molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Trunk neural crest cells migrate through the somites in a striking segmental fashion, entering the rostral but not caudal sclerotome, via cues intrinsic to the somites.

A dual flow bioreactor with controlled mechanical stimulation for cartilage tissue engineering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In cartilage tissue engineering bioreactors can create a controlled environment to study chondrocyte behavior under mechanical stimulation or produce chondrogenic grafts of clinically relevant size.

Flow‐based immunomagnetic enrichment of circulating tumor cells from diagnostic leukapheresis product

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The number of circulating tumor cells obtained from prostate cancer patients was increased approximately 5‐fold compared to regular CellSearch when processing 2 mL diagnostic leukapheresis material aliquots and increased by 44‐fold when processing 20 mL DLA aliquots using the flow enrichment target capture Halbach‐array.

The NADPH oxidase NOX4 regulates redox and metabolic homeostasis preventing HCC progression

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Loss of NOX4 in HCC tumor cells induces metabolic reprogramming in a Nrf2/MYC‐dependent manner to promote HCC progression. Abstract Background and Aims The NADPH oxidase NOX4 plays a tumor‐suppressor function in HCC. Silencing NOX4 confers higher proliferative and migratory capacity to HCC cells and increases their in vivo tumorigenic potential in ...

Cultivar, explant type and culture medium influencing embryogenesis and organogenegenesis in Anthurium spp. [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2006
The effect of cultivars, culture media, explant type and wounding on culture response of anthurium were studied. Valantino gave the highest callus formation (83.73%) significantly different from Sonat (78.73%) and Plew Thien Phuket (45.66%).

Proteomic Analysis of Tendon Extracellular Matrix Reveals Disease Stage- specific Fragmentation and Differential Cleavage of COMP ( Cartilage Oligomeric Matrix Protein) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
During inflammatory processes the extracellular matrix (ECM) is extensively remodeled, and many of the constituent components are released as proteolytically cleaved fragments.

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Destabilization of mutated human PUS3 protein causes intellectual disability

open access: yesHuman Mutation, Volume 43, Issue 12, Page 2063-2078, December 2022., 2022
The homodimer of pseudouridine synthase 3 converts uridines at position 39 in tRNAs to pseudouridine (ψ), which affects tRNA stability and regulates RNA–protein interactions. Several patient‐derived variants of PUS3 have been associated with neurodegenerative diseases.
