Development and preclinical evaluation of a hybrid stereoelectroencephalographic–laser depth electrode for magnetic resonance imaging‐guided interstitial thermal therapy in drug‐resistant epilepsy

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This study was undertaken to design and validate a hybrid depth electrode combining stereoelectroencephalographic (sEEG) recording and magnetic resonance‐guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) under real‐time magnetic resonance thermometry, to streamline the transition from invasive localization to focal ablation in ...

Stereo‐electroencephalography–guided responsive neuromodulation: A propensity‐matched cohort study

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective The optimal pre‐implantation evaluation and surgical targeting strategies for responsive neurostimulation (RNS) in patients with unresectable, drug‐resistant focal epilepsy continue to be debated. Although stereo‐electroencephalography (sEEG) is central to characterizing the seizure‐onset zone, its role in preoperative testing for ...

Aggressive posterior retinopathy of prematurity in infants ≥1500 g birth weight

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2014
In this retrospective case series, we report the spectrum and outcomes of aggressive posterior retinopathy of prematurity (APROP) in infants ≥1500 g birth weight. Twenty-nine eyes of 15 infants are included.

Seizure forecasting: The long and winding road to clinical translation

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Seizure forecasting has progressed from theoretical aspiration to a rapidly advancing research domain, yet clinical translation remains limited. Over the past decades, advances in algorithm development, chronic electroencephalography (EEG), wearable sensors, and the characterization of seizure cycles have demonstrated that seizure risk is not ...

Cancer Explant Models

open access: yes, 2019
Overcoming the challenges of understanding and treating cancer requires reliable patient-derived models of cancer (PDMCs). For decades, cancer research and therapeutic development relied primarily on cancer cell lines because of their prevalence, reproducibility, and simplicity to maintain.

Explant culture of human colon

open access: yesGastroenterology, 1978
Human colonic epithelium has been cultured as explants in a chemically defined medium for periods of 1 to 20 days. The viability of the explants was shown by the preservation of the ultrastructural features of the colonic epithelial cells and by active incorporation of radioactive precursors into cellular DNA and protein.

Comparative multicenter evaluation of thalamic neuromodulation for treatment‐resistant epilepsy in children

open access: yesEpilepsia, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Use of neuromodulation strategies targeting thalamic nuclei, including deep brain stimulation (DBS) and responsive neurostimulation (RNS), for treatment of pediatric drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE) is increasing, despite limited evidence for efficacy and safety. We present the initial results from the Comparative Multicenter Evaluation

Acute Aortic Stent Graft Thrombosis in Patient with Recent COVID-19 Infection

open access: yesReports
Although COVID-19 primarily affects the respiratory system, it can have various effects on other organs, including the cardiovascular system. COVID-19 can lead to a prothrombotic status, promoting blood clotting, which can potentially affect native ...

Postmastectomy Radiation Therapy (PMRT) before and after 2-Stage Expander-Implant Breast Reconstruction: A Systematic Review

open access: yesMedicina, 2019
Background: In those undergoing treatment for breast cancer, evidence has demonstrated a significant improvement in survival, and a reduction in the risk of local recurrence in patients who undergo postmastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT).
