Implicit vs. explicit learning in German noun plurals [PDF]

open access: yesPsihologija, 2008
Over the past few decades there has been a lot of debate about language learning and the opinion about the status of mental rule during the process of language learning is still divided between different researches. The present study examines learning morphology of German noun plurals based on rules, examples or on both, rules and examples. The results

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Human Learning: implicit and explicit [PDF]

open access: yesEducação & Realidade, 2015
Building on Polanyi's insight in The Tacit Dimension that we know more than we can tell, this paper argues that we actually experience more of reality than that of which we are conscious. Our conscious experience becomes the basis of explicit learning but that which we experience but of which we are not conscious is the basis of implicit learning and ...

Perspectives in educating molecular pathologists on liquid biopsy: Toward integrative, equitable, and decentralized precision oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Liquid biopsy enables minimally invasive, real‐time molecular profiling through analysis of circulating biomarkers in biological fluids. This Perspective highlights the importance of training pathologists through integrative educational programs, such as the European Masters in Molecular Pathology, to ensure effective and equitable implementation of ...

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

Dammarenediol II enhances etoposide‐induced apoptosis by targeting O‐GlcNAc transferase and Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling in liver cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Explicit Learning: An Effort Towards Human Scheduling Algorithms [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2003
Scheduling problems are generally NP-hard combinatorial problems, and a lot of research has been done to solve these problems heuristically. However, most of the previous approaches are problem-specific and research into the development of a general scheduling algorithm is still in its infancy. Mimicking the natural evolutionary process of the survival

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

Speech Stream Composition Affects Statistical Learning: Behavioral and Neural Evidence

open access: yesBrain Sciences
Statistical learning (SL), the ability to extract patterns from the environment, has been assumed to play a central role in whole cognition, particularly in language acquisition. Evidence has been gathered, however, from behavioral experiments relying on

Base-rate sensitivity through implicit learning.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Two experiments assessed the contributions of implicit and explicit learning to base-rate sensitivity. Using a factorial design that included both implicit and explicit learning disruptions, we tested the hypothesis that implicit learning underlies base ...
