An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Allometric Exponent and Randomness

open access: yes, 2013
An allometric height-mass exponent $\gamma$ gives an approximative power-law relation $ \propto H^\gamma$ between the average mass $$ and the height $H$, for a sample of individuals.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cardiovascular safety of fixed-dose extended-release naltrexone/bupropion in clinical practiceKey takeaways

open access: yesObesity Pillars
Background: The fixed-dose extended-release combination of naltrexone/bupropion (NB-ER) is indicated to treat overweight and obesity in adults as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Can One Make Any Crash Prediction in Finance Using the Local Hurst Exponent Idea?

open access: yes, 2003
We apply the Hurst exponent idea for investigation of DJIA index time-series data. The behavior of the local Hurst exponent prior to drastic changes in financial series signal is analyzed.

β‐TrCP overexpression enhances cisplatin sensitivity by depleting BRCA1

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low levels of β‐TrCP (Panel A) allow the accumulation of BRCA1 and CtIP, which facilitate the repair of cisplatin‐induced DNA damage via homologous recombination (HR) and promote tumor cell survival. In contrast, high β‐TrCP expression (Panel B) leads to BRCA1 and CtIP degradation, impairing HR repair, resulting in persistent DNA damage and apoptosis ...

Generalized Exponents and Forms [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Algebraic Combinatorics, 2005
Let \(V=\mathbb{C}^l\) or \(\mathbb{R}^l\) be a complex or real vector space. A reflection is an element of \(\text{GL}(V)\) whose fixed point set is a hyperplane in \(V\). Let \(G\) be a reflection group, i.e., a finite subgroup of \(\text{GL}(V)\) generated by reflections. We assume all \(G\)-modules are \(\mathbb{C} G\)-modules. For any \(G\)-module

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by

The minimum exponent of the primitive digraphs on the given number of arcs [PDF]

open access: yesOpuscula Mathematica, 2004
Primitive digraphs on \(n\) vertices, \(k\) arcs and girth \(s\) are considered. By \(a(n,k,s)\) we mean the minimum exponent taken over all such digraphs. We estimate the number \(a(n,k,s)\) using the Frobenius number for special values of \(k\) and \(s\
