Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

On Two Exponential Sums and Their Applications

open access: yesFinite Fields and Their Applications, 1997
Let \(F_{q}\) be a finite field with \(q=p^{s}\) elements. The paper concerns the problem on existence of primitive polynomials \[ f(x)=x^{n}+a_{1}x^{n-1}+ \cdots +a_{n-1}x+a_{n} \in F_{q}[x] \] with the \(i\)-th coefficient \(a_{i}=a\) prescribed. Let \(N(q,n,i,a)\) denote the number of such polynomials. It was conjectured by \textit{T.

Grain Refinement During Severe Plastic Deformation and Similitude of Subgrain Formation: A Molecular Dynamics Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Molecular dynamics is used to investigate structure refinement during severe plastic deformation. The results show similitude with experimental data. Molecular dynamics simulations of severe plastic deformation of monocrystalline and polycrystalline samples by multiaxial compression of aluminum are carried out.

Difference Sets and Positive Exponential Sums I. General Properties

open access: yes, 2014
We describe general connections between intersective properties of sets in Abelian groups and positive exponential sums. In particular, given a set A the maximal size of a set whose difference set avoids A will be related to positive exponential sums ...

Design and Analysis of Compression–Torsion Coupling Metamaterials Using the Golden Section Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel compression–torsion metamaterial is engineered using inclined rods and symmetry breaking. To optimize its torsional performance, the golden section method is employed. The mechanical response of the metamaterial is validated through both numerical analysis and experimental validation.

Exponential sums with Catalan numbers and middle binomial coefficients

open access: yes, 2007
We estimate the number of solutions of certain congruences with Catalan numbers and middle binomial coefficients modulo a prime. We use these results to bound double exponential sums with products of two Catalan numbers and two middle binomial ...

Enhancing Low‐Temperature Performance of Sodium‐Ion Batteries via Anion‐Solvent Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DOL is introduced into electrolytes as a co‐solvent, increasing slat solubility, ion conductivity, and the de‐solvent process, and forming an anion‐rich solvent shell due to its high interaction with anion. With the above virtues, the batteries using this electrolyte exhibit excellent cycling stability at low temperatures. Abstract Sodium‐ion batteries

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

An exact renormalization formula for Gaussian exponential sums and applications

open access: yes, 2009
In the present paper, we derive a renormalization formula ``à la Hardy-Littlewood'' for the Gaussian exponential sums with an exact formula for the remainder term.

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.
