On DeepSeek and Export Controls

open access: yesSuperIntelligence - Robotics - Safety & Alignment
DeepSeek does not "do for $6M5 what cost US AI companies billions". I can only speak for Anthropic, but Claude 3.5 Sonnet is a mid-sized model that cost a few $10M's to train (I won't give an exact number). Also, 3.5 Sonnet was not trained in any way that involved a larger or more expensive model (contrary to some rumors).

Encryption’s Importance to Economic and Infrastructure Security [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Det övergripande syftet med den här avhandlingen var att utreda om network coopetition, samarbete mellan konkurrerande aktörer, kan öka värdeskapandet inom hälso- och sjukvården.

Coagulative Granular Hydrogels with an Enzyme Catalyzed Fibrin Network for Endogenous Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Coagulative granular hydrogels are composed of packed thrombin‐functionalized microgels that catalyze the conversion of fibrinogen into a secondary fibrin network, filling the interstitial voids. This bio‐inspired approach stabilizes the biomaterial to match the robustness of bulk hydrogels without compromising injectability, mimicking the initial ...

Liberalizing Indian agriculture : an agenda for reform [PDF]

open access: yes
In July 1991, India embarked on a program of economic decontrol that greatly speeded the previously slow process of liberalizing trade and domestic regulatory controls begun in 1978. But the focus of reform has been on manufacturing.

Fluid Forces Control Structural Remodeling of Blind‐Ended Lymphatic Microvessels

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Using innovative microfluidic biofabrication with fluid mechanical insights, we recapitulated the blind‐ended microanatomy and physiological drainage properties of capillary lymphatics. Our results reveal the interrelationship between intra‐ and extraluminal regions of lymphatic vessels due to flow‐induced sprouting and morphological changes that ...

The Business Security Dilemma: responses to the US weaponization of semiconductors

open access: yesAsian Review of Political Economy
The growing rivalry between the United States (US) and China has made the global semiconductor supply chain a central arena for economic statecraft, with US export controls restricting China’s access to advanced chips.

Flash Assembloids: A Rapid Biofabrication of a Platform for Modeling Early Glioblastoma Invasion at the Glioblastoma–Brain Organoid Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a bioengineered assembloid (ASM) system combining glioblastoma (GBM) cells in oxidized alginate (OA) microgels with dorsal organoids (DOs). This model simulates brain tumor‐host interactions, revealing enhanced GBM invasion, altered gene expression, and aggressive infiltration patterns, demonstrating ASM as a valuable platform for ...

Development of a Synthetic Hydrogel to Foster Microvascularization of an Endometriosis Microphysiological System

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ascent of novel alternative methods in drug development spotlights the dual needs for improved biological fidelity to in vivo, along with reproducibility, especially in regulatory applications. The need for pre‐clinical models of patient‐derived endometriosis lesions motivates the development of a vascularizable, completely synthetic ...

Dual Acidic pH‐Responsive Post‐Crosslinked E‐Spun Nanofibrous Scaffolds Exhibiting Enhanced Disassembly and Release for Localized Cancer Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Dual acidic pH‐responsive degradable e‐spun nanofibrous mats crosslinked with acid‐labile imine and boronic ester linkages that exhibit rapid degradation and enhanced release of encapsulated anticancer drugs through their acid‐catalyzed hydrolysis and their doxorubicin‐loaded mats having desired antitumoral activity and hemocompatibility, as promising ...
