β‐Adducin Restrains PLA2G4A‐Dependent Lysosomal Membrane Permeabilization and Neuronal Death in Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies β‐adducin as a regulator of lysosomal integrity in ischemic neurons. Ischemia‐associated FTO loss increases m6A modification and destabilizes Add2 mRNA, reducing β‐adducin expression and promoting PLA2G4A accumulation at lysosomes.

Exposure to sublethal levels of insecticide-fungicide mixtures affect reproductive success and population growth rates in the solitary bee Osmia cornuta

open access: yesEnvironment International
In agricultural environments, bees are routinely exposed to combinations of pesticides. For the most part, exposure to these pesticide mixtures does not result in acute lethal effects, but we know very little about potential sublethal effects and their ...

Metabolic‐Redox Remodeling of Inflammatory Synovium by Mannose‐Modified Selenium Nanoparticles for Osteoarthritis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Elevated GLUT1‐driven glycolysis and disrupted selenoprotein‐dependent redox homeostasis drive osteoarthritic progression. Intra‐articular mannose‐modified selenium nanoparticles (M‐SeNPs) selectively target hypermetabolic synovial cells to reprogram aberrant glycolysis and restore endogenous antioxidant defenses.

Parent-offspring correlations under full-sib and parent-offspring mating systems

open access: yes, 1975
A study of the parent-offspring correlations under full-sib mating and parent-offspring mating system has been conducted. A general theory for obtaining the correlation between one parent and k offspring, as well as the correlation between both the ...

Can Chemoradiotherapy Expand Immune Checkpoint Blockade Responsiveness in Mismatch Repair‐Proficient Rectal Cancer?

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) has transformed the treatment of mismatch repair‐deficient (dMMR) colorectal cancer but produces no meaningful benefit in advanced mismatch repair‐proficient (pMMR) disease. In the neoadjuvant setting, however, pathological responses have been reported in a subset of pMMR tumors, suggesting that clinical ...

Explaining the Origin of Negative Poisson's Ratio in Amorphous Networks With Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This review summarizes how machine learning (ML) breaks the “vicious cycle” in designing auxetic amorphous networks. By transitioning from traditional “black‐box” optimization to an interpretable “AI‐Physics” closed‐loop paradigm, ML is shown to not only discover highly optimized structures—such as all‐convex polygon networks—but also unveil hidden ...

Seeds of change: The impact of Ethiopia's direct seed marketing approach on smallholders' seed purchases and productivity

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract While multiple factors explain low adoption rates of improved varieties by small‐scale farmers in sub‐Saharan Africa, a key supply‐side constraint is the limited availability of seed embodying new traits in the volume, quality, price, and timeliness required by farmers. This constraint is partly attributable to classical failures in the market

Intelligence in offspring born to women exposed to intimate partner violence: a population-based cohort study

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a risk factor for developmental problems in offspring. Despite a high prevalence of IPV in the UK and elsewhere, the longer-term outcomes of offspring born to exposed mothers remain under-researched. Methods:

Interactions between maternal provisioning and natural selection on seed mass fluctuate across heat waves

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Changing climates are leading to more frequent and severe heat waves, potentially threatening plant populations. Both acclimation to stress and selection for heat‐escape or heat‐resistance phenotypes occur during heat waves. However, plastic responses and selection do not necessarily interact cohesively—even producing trait responses ...

NO NĀ PUA: Exploring the feasibility of culture‐based social prescribing on firefighters' wellbeing in Hawaiʻi

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Community Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Firefighters face an array of stressors due to the demands of their occupation, leading to a high prevalence of mental health challenges. Social prescribing represents a novel approach to healthcare that emphasizes a holistic view of health and wellbeing.
