Expression Patterns of MicroRNAs in Porcine Endometrium and Their Potential Roles in Embryo Implantation and Placentation

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Implantation and placentation are critical steps for successful pregnancy. The pig has a non-invasive placenta and the uterine luminal epithelium is intact throughout pregnancy.

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Genome-Wide Identification of Members of the Soybean CBL Gene Family and Characterization of the Functional Role of GmCBL1 in Responses to Saline and Alkaline Stress

open access: yesPlants
Calcium ions function as key messengers in the context of intracellular signal transduction. The ability of plants to respond to biotic and abiotic stressors is highly dependent on the calcineurin B-like protein (CBL) and CBL-interacting protein kinase ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Genome-Wide Identification and Expression Analyses of the MADS-Box Gene During Flowering in Primulina huaijiensis

open access: yesPlants
Primulina huaijiensis is a promising candidate for eco-bottle flowers, yet the genes related to flowering remain unexplored despite the availability of genomic data for several years. MADS-box genes constitute a large family of transcription factors that

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.
