Fractalkine Over Expression Suppresses α-Synuclein-mediated Neurodegeneration [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Therapy, 2015
In Parkinson's disease, α-synuclein is known to activate microglia and this activation has been proposed as one of the mechanisms of neurodegeneration. There are several signals produced by neurons that have an anti-inflammatory action on microglia, including CX3CL1 (fractalkine). We have shown that a soluble form of CX3CL1 is required to reduce neuron

Emotional suppression and well-being in immigrants and majority group members in the Netherlands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We were interested in interethnic differences in emotional suppression. We propose a model in which suppression of specific emotional experiences (suppressive behaviours during interactions with others) mediates the relationship between emotional ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Behavioral Inhibition and Activation Systems, and Emotional Regulation in Individuals With Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2018
Gray's Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory postulates two distinct neurophysiological systems that underlie thoughts, emotions, and behavior: the Behavioral Inhibition System (BIS) and the Behavioral Approach System (BAS). Preliminary research suggests that

An exploratory study on internet addiction, somatic symptoms and emotional and behavioral functioning in school-aged adolescents [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Objective: In the last two decades there has been a significant transformation regarding the use of new technologies. Despite growing acknowledgement concerning the different activities and functions of digital technologies, there remains a lack of ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Chitosan‑based nanoparticles with damnacanthal suppress CRM1 expression

open access: yesOncology Letters, 2018
Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Phytochemicals may be promising anticancer agents given their various chemical structures and diverse biological activities. Damnacanthal (DAM) is a major bioactive component of Noni, which has been investigated previously as a cancer-preventive or chemotherapeutic agent.

Foxd3 suppresses interleukin‐10 expression in B cells [PDF]

open access: yesImmunology, 2017
SummaryInterleukin‐10‐positive (IL‐10+) regulatory B (Breg) cells play an important role in restraining excessive inflammatory responses by secreting IL‐10. However, it is still unclear what key transcription factors determine Breg cell differentiation.

A cross-sectional study on the influence of emotion regulation strategies on the association between trait mindfulness and suicidality

open access: yesBMC Psychology
Background Several risk factors for suicidality, including dysfunctional emotion regulation strategies (ERS), have been identified. With regard to the high number of suicides worldwide, suicide prevention and identifying potentially protective factors is
