Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL)

open access: yesOceana Biomedicina Journal, 2018
Antibiotics have been widely used today. Use of antibiotics is also often used in mass and not in accordance with the indication, among others, in a particular case of fish poisoning on the beach, often the treatment is given antibiotics without clearlyindication.

Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases and Plasmid-Mediated Ampc Enzymes among Clinical Isolates of Escherichia Coli and Kebsiella Pneumoniae from Seven Medical Centers in Taiwan

open access: yes, 2009
Production of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases and plasmid- mediated AmpC enzymes was investigated among 291 Escherichia coli and 282 Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates that showed decreased susceptibilities to extended-spectrum cephalosporins from seven ...

Development and Application of a Rapid 23S rRNA‐Targeted Reverse Transcription Quantitative PCR System for the Detection and Quantification of Enterobacterales

open access: yesMicrobiology and Immunology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Bacteria belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae occur as commensals or pathogens in humans. The increasing prevalence of multidrug‐resistant bacteria has raised global concern. Following the reclassification of Enterobacteriaceae species into the order Enterobacterales in 2016.

Evolutionary and Epidemiological Characterization of Multidrug‐Resistant Escherichia coli Isolated From Pangolins in China

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Malayan pangolin populations have fallen to a critically endangered level, and illegal trafficking of wild pangolins is a global problem. Little is known about antimicrobial‐resistant bacteria (MDRB) harbored by pangolins, although pangolins are frequently consumed as food or used in traditional medicine. In this study, we report for the first

Spatial Patterns and Associated Factors of Intestinal Antibiotic Resistance Genes in Farmed Bullfrogs From Selected Farms Across Major Production Regions in China

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Across selected bullfrog farms in major Chinese production regions, 106 intestinal ARG subtypes were detected, with tetracycline and sulfonamide resistance genes predominating and clear farm‐level variation. High‐risk ARGs, including ermB, floR, and qnrA, were associated with heavy metals, MGEs, and opportunistic pathogens. These findings highlight the

Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase orthopedic wound infections in Nigeria

open access: yesJournal of Global Infectious Diseases, 2011
Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Gram-negative bacteria are emerging and impacting significantly on the management of patients and hospital costs. Besides, they are not being routinely sought after in diagnostic laboratories thus contributing to treatment failure.Bacterial isolates from wounds of 45 patients were identified using ...

Study of biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance pattern of gram-negative Bacilli among the clinical isolates at BPKIHS, Dharan

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2019
Objectives Gram-negative bacilli are the common causative agents for community-acquired, nosocomial and opportunistic infections. The recent upsurge of biofilm, as well as beta-lactamases producing strains, have synergistically led to the extensive ...

Exploring Protein Sequence Space Using Computationally Directed Recombination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Evolution has provided us with many protein sequences. However, these sequences represent a very small fraction of the possible sequences. In the laboratory, scientists have explored areas of sequence space not represented by natural proteins both to ...

Investigating the Use of Routine Swabs in Incision and Drainage of Abscesses: An Audit of Western Sydney Hospitals

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
This study aimed to demonstrate whether intraoperative swab results were used to tailor antibiotic management in incision and drainage of abscesses. A retrospective cohort study was performed from 2023 to 2025, with 2088 cases. In most cases, an intraoperative swab was collected. The result only changed antibiotic management in 3% of cases.
