Extended depth of field imaging for mosaic hyperspectral images [PDF]
Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is an emerging modality for digital pathology. The purpose of this study is to develop an extended depth of field (EDOF) method for mosaic hyperspectral images acquired with a snapshot camera. EDOF is a technique for ensuring that an image is in focus at all points.

Image processing for extended depth of field
Applied Optics, 1983Improvement in the depth of field is demonstrated by properly processing a succession of image samples. Due to the limited depth of field each image sample has in-focus as well as out-of-focus segments. By setting criteria for selecting the in-focus segments, an improved composite image is formed. Three algorithms for implementing this construction are

In this thesis the extension of the depth of field of optical systems is investigated. The problem of achieving extended depth of field (EDF) while preserving the transverse resolution is also addressed. A new expression for the transport of intensity equation in the prolate spheroidal coordinates system is derived, with the aim of investigating the ...

Asymmetric phase masks for extended depth of field
Applied Optics, 2004We present a family of asymmetric phase masks that extends the depth of field of an optical system. To verify our proposal, we compute several modulation transfer functions with focus errors, and we report numerical simulations of the images that can be achieved by use of our proposed procedure.

Extended depth of field through an axicon
Journal of Modern Optics, 2009One of the main disadvantages of imaging systems is the limited depth of field. We present the ability of a refractive axicon for imaging with an extended depth of field. We design an imaging system with a two-step imaging approach that uses a CCD camera to capture intermediate images and uses a digital process to obtain the final images.

Extending the depth of field in microscopy: A review
2016 International Conference on Image and Vision Computing New Zealand (IVCNZ), 2016This paper investigates multi-focus image fusion methods in the context of microscope. Limited depth of field is one of the major limitations in microscopy. Objects which are thicker than the depth of field cannot be captured completely within one sharp image.

Virtual Microscopy with Extended Depth of Field
Digital Image Computing: Techniques and Applications (DICTA'05), 2005In this paper, we describe a virtual microscope system, based on JPEG 2000, which utilizes extended depth of field (EDF) imaging. Through a series of observer trials we show that EDF imaging improves both the local image quality of individual fields of view (FOV) and the accuracy with which the FOVs can be mosaiced (stitched) together.
