Multifocal and Extended Depth-of-Focus Intraocular Lenses in 2020

Ophthalmology, 2021
Ophthalmic surgeons have been overwhelmed by the influx of multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) options in recent years, with close to 100 IOLs on the market in 2020. This practical and technical update on a representative group of established as well as newly launched multifocal IOLs on the market focuses on multifocal IOLs, including extended depth-of ...

Extended depth of focus contact lenses for presbyopia

Optics Letters, 2009
The purpose of this Letter is to design, develop, fabricate, and test in clinical trials a new (to our knowledge) type of contact lenses that provides simultaneous near and distance focused vision for presbyopic subjects, including those with up to 2.00 diopters (D) of regular/irregular astigmatism, as an alternative to multifocal contact lenses.

Extended Depth of Focus and Aberration Control

Integrated Computational Imaging Systems, 2001
Recent advances are presented in the use of a new paradigm for the design of imaging systems. The concept of wavefront coding is described, and several examples are given where previously unobtainable performance is obtained.

Scanning microscopy with extended depth of focus

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
We demonstrate a simple and light-efficient way of generating non-diffracting Bessel beams for use in confocal microscopy. A number of imaging modalities using such beams is discussed. Preliminary experimental results including brightfield, fluorescence and two-photon images are presented.

Extended depth of focus for transmission x-ray microscope

Optics Letters, 2012
A fast discrete curvelet transform based focus-stacking algorithm for extending the depth of focus of a transmission x-ray microscope (TXM) is presented. By analyzing an image stack of a sample taken in a Z-scan, a fully in-focus image can be generated by the proposed scheme.

Visual acuity and blur: An extended depth-of-focus model

European Journal of Ophthalmology, 2022
Purpose This article proposes a simple model that describes the quantitative relationship between visual acuity and defocus (as in defocus curves) in the presence of higher-order aberrations (HOA). Methods The basis model for ...

Optimal focusing with extended depth of focus in microscopic systems

2017 25th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2017
Light microscopic systems have the limited depth of field. The objects into depth of focus only appear in-focus. When the samples observed at the microscope are thicker than depth of focus, it is seen that some regions on samples images are out of focus and a whole objects completely in one single image can't be obtained.

Time multiplexing based extended depth of focus imaging

Optics Letters, 2015
We propose to utilize the time multiplexing super resolution method to extend the depth of focus of an imaging system. In standard time multiplexing, the super resolution is achieved by generating duplication of the optical transfer function in the spectrum domain, by the use of moving gratings.

Generating flat-top beams with extended depth of focus

Applied Optics, 2018
Two approaches for generating flat-top beams (uniform intensity profile) with extended depth of focus are presented. One involves two diffractive optical elements (DOEs) and the other only a single DOE. The results indicate that the depth of focus of such beams strongly depends on the phase distribution at the output of the DOEs.

Multi-focus image fusion for extended depth of field

Proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Internet Multimedia Computing and Service, 2018
In this paper, we address the extended depth of field method, which appropriately applicable to a set of stack images. The proposed fusion algorithm improved a conventional discrete wavelet transform using spatial frequency and sum-modified-Laplacian.
