Linking Historic Developments and Future Scenarios of Industrial Energy Use in the Netherlands between 1993 and 2040

open access: yes, 2013
Monitoring energy efficiency improvements is essential for policy evaluation and for future policy making. We estimate the annual energy efficiency improvements achieved in six Dutch industry sectors between 1993 and 2008 by using a bottom-up model. This

Extended Lagrangian free energy molecular dynamics

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2011
Extended free energy Lagrangians are proposed for first principles molecular dynamics simulations at finite electronic temperatures for plane-wave pseudopotential and local orbital density matrix-based calculations. Thanks to the extended Lagrangian description, the electronic degrees of freedom can be integrated by stable geometric schemes that ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Energy use, international trade and economic growth nexus in Australia: new evidence from an extended growth model

open access: yes, 2016
This study investigates the existence of either energy-led growth hypothesis or trade-led growth in Australia for a 53-year period (1960–2012) using a multivariate extended growth model.

Intention to use green energy among Chinese adults: an extended value-attitude-intention model

open access: yes, 2023
PurposeSwitching to green energy is a crucial step in achieving carbon neutrality. This study aims to explore what motivates people to use green energy and how much more people are willing to pay for green energy.Design/methodology/approachGrounded on ...

OntoWind: An Improved and Extended Wind Energy Ontology

open access: yesCoRR, 2018
Ontologies are critical sources of semantic information for many application domains. Hence, there are ontologies proposed and utilized for domains such as medicine, chemical engineering, and electrical energy. In this paper, we present an improved and extended version of a wind energy ontology previously proposed.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Ordering of Energy Levels for Extended SU(N) Hubbard Chain

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2010
The Lieb-Mattis theorem on the antiferromagnetic ordering of energy levels is generalized to SU(N) extended Hubbard model with Heisenberg exchange and pair-hopping terms.
