This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Smoothed finite element method for two-dimensional elasto-plasticity
This communication shows how the smoothed finite element method (SFEM) very recently proposed by G. R. Liu [14] can be extended to elasto-plasticity. The SFEM results are in excellent agreement with the finite element (FEM) and analytical results.

Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...

This work studies the anisotropic behavior of circular notched tensile specimens of Ni‐base superalloy single crystals during high‐temperature tensile creep along [001], [110], and [111]. Correlative scale‐bridging imaging of specimens reveals early rupture along [110] because 1) plastic deformation proceeds faster at notch center; 2) more (brittle ...

A LEAST SQUARES FINITE ELEMENT METHOD FOR THE EXTENDED MAXWELL SYSTEM [PDF]
A flnite element method based on the flrst order system LL ⁄ (FOSLL ⁄ ) approach is derived for time harmonic Maxwell's equations in three dimensional domains. The flnite element solution is a potential for the original fleld in a sense that the original fleld U is given by U = L ⁄ u.
