Designing reading tasks to maximise vocabulary learning [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Research on English Language, 2014
Most vocabulary learning should occur incidentally through listening and reading. This is one of the reasons why a substantial extensive reading program is an important part of an English course.

Nicotinamide N‐methyltransferase promotes drug resistance in lung cancer, as revealed by nascent proteomic profiling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
AZD9291 has shown promise in targeted cancer therapy but is limited by resistance. In this study, we employed metabolic labeling and LC–MS/MS to profile time‐resolved nascent protein perturbations, allowing dynamic tracking of drug‐responsive proteins. We demonstrated that increased NNMT expression is associated with drug resistance, highlighting NNMT ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Improving Academic Literacy for EAP Students at the Postsecondary Level: A Literature Review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
English Language Learners (ELLs) encounter many difficulties in regards to academic literacy (reading and writing) at the postsecondary level. Strategies such as close reading, extensive reading, information literacy workshops, learning communities, and

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

EXTENSIVE READING: THEORY, RESEARCH AND IMPLEMENTATION

open access: yesTEFLIN Journal, 2019
There are three purposes of this paper, the first of which is to elucidate the theory and principles underlying extensive reading. Long-held principles will be discussed in light of practical classroom and contextual considerations. Secondly, a critical

Enhancing Reading Comprehension Through Extensive Reading

open access: yesJournal of English Education Program
Numerous studies support extensive reading as beneficial for second language learners, enhancing vocabulary, grammar, writing, and overall English proficiency. However, there is still a small number of research on how this technique influences students' ability to answer reading comprehension questions.

Edinburgh Project on Extensive Reading (EPER) Reading Comprehension Tests: Scoring and setting cutoff scores [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014

Bridging the gap: Multi‐stakeholder perspectives of molecular diagnostics in oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Although molecular diagnostics is transforming cancer care, implementing novel technologies remains challenging. This study identifies unmet needs and technology requirements through a two‐step stakeholder involvement. Liquid biopsies for monitoring applications and predictive biomarker testing emerge as key unmet needs. Technology requirements vary by
