ON COUPLED PROBLEMS FOR VISCOUS FLOW IN EXTERIOR DOMAINS [PDF]

open access: yesMathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 1998
The use of the complete Navier–Stokes system in an unbounded domain is not always convenient in computations and, therefore, the Navier–Stokes problem is often truncated to a bounded domain. In this paper we simulate the interaction between the flow in this domain and the exterior flow with the aid of a coupled problem.

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Existence and nonexistence of radial solutions for semilinear equations with bounded nonlinearities on exterior domains

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2020
In this article we study radial solutions of $\Delta u + K(r)f(u)= 0$ on the exterior of the ball of radius R>0 centered at the origin in ${\mathbb R}^N$ where f is odd with f<0 on $(0, \beta)$, f>$ on $(\beta, \delta)$, $f\equiv 0$ for $u ...

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Positive solutions for semi-linear elliptic equations in exterior domains

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2009
We prove the existence of a solution, decaying to zero at infinity, for the second order differential equation $$ frac{1}{A(t)}(A(t)u'(t))'+phi(t)+f(t,u(t))=0,quad tin (a,infty).

Targeting transcription factors associated with hemoglobinopathies: Lessons from successful interventions and implications for cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the transcription factors, repressive chromatin‐modifying complexes, and epigenetic mechanisms that control fetal hemoglobin repression. Notably, many regulators of γ‐globin silencing also function in transcriptional and epigenetic networks that drive cancer, highlighting opportunities to translate advances in hemoglobinopathy ...

Stability and covergence properties of Bergman Kernel methods for numerical conformal mapping [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
In this paper we study the stability and convergence properties of Bergman kernel methods, for the numerical conform al mapping of simply and doubly- connected domains.
