Effects and Complications of Hip Arthroplasty After Failure of Internal Fixation in Stable and Unstable Intertrochanteric Femoral Fractures

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
This multicenter study shows that conversion to hip arthroplasty after failed internal fixation yields better functional outcomes and fewer complications in stable versus unstable intertrochanteric fractures, highlighting the impact of initial fracture stability on revision success.

Treatment of reducible unstable fractures of the distal radius: randomized clinical study comparing the locked volar plate and external fixator methods: study protocol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Various treatments are available for reducible unstable fractures of the distal radius, such as closed reduction combined with fixation by external fixator (EF), and rigid internal fixation using a locked volar plate (VP).

Dual Isotope Analysis Reveals Phylogenetic Patterns and Novel Insights Into Methoxy Group Synthesis of Structural Biomolecules in Leaf and Woody Plant Tissues

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Stable carbon and hydrogen isotopes of wood methoxy groups (δ2Hmeth, δ13Cmeth), mainly sourced by structural biomolecules like lignin and pectin, provide important insights into climatic, hydrological and physiological conditions. This study systematically investigated species‐specific δ2Hmeth and δ13Cmeth variations in leaves and woody twigs ...

Costs and Complications of Single Stage Fixation Versus Two-Stage Treatment of Select Bicondylar Tibial Plateau Fractures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Objectives: To determine the differences in costs and complications in patients with bicondylar tibial plateau (BTP) fractures treated with one stage definitive fixation compared to two stage fixation following initial spanning external fixation ...

Primary or secondary wound healing of the pin sites after removal of the external fixator: study protocol for a prospective, randomized controlled, monocenter trial

open access: yesTrials, 2020
Background Temporary fixation with an external fixator is used for numerous indications in orthopedic trauma surgery. It is unclear whether primary wound healing or secondary open-wound healing after removal of the external fixator should be advocated ...

Photobiomodulation associated with physical exercise in shoulder impingement syndrome. Systematic review with meta‐analysis

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
The combination of physical exercise and PBM therapy has been demonstrated to be an effective approach in reducing pain and enhancing range of motion and functionality. Abstract To present the use of PBM associated with physical exercise in the treatment of shoulder impingement syndrome, with its different parameters. The following databases were used:

The role of hinged external fixation in the treatment of knee dislocation, subluxation and fracture‐dislocation: A systematic review of indications

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics
Purpose While rigid knee‐spanning external fixation is more commonly utilized in the treatment of complex knee injuries compared to hinged external fixation (HEF), HEF has the added benefit of providing stability while also permitting early controlled ...

Risk factors of ankle osteoarthritis in the treatment of critical bone defects using ilizarov technique

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2021
Background Distraction osteogenesis using the Ilizarov external circular fixator has been applied in lower limb reconstructive surgery widely. The increasing ankle osteoarthritis (OA) progression and severity are often associated with the period of ...

Autologous, free omentum grafts for large, open, distal limb wounds in dogs: Technique and outcome in 10 dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To describe the operative technique and outcome of free autologous omentum grafting (OG) for wound reconstruction on the distal limbs of dogs. Study design Retrospective case series. Animals A total of 10 client‐owned dogs. Methods Medical records (2010–2023) were searched for dogs with open limb wounds distal to the stifle or elbow ...
