Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Rare External Jugular Vein Pseudoaneurysm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
External jugular vein pseudoaneurysm is a very rare cause of a neck mass due to the low pressure venous system. This case demonstrates a 27-year-old female who presented to the emergency department with a non-tender, compressible, left-sided neck mass ...

Formation and Collapse of Nonaxisymmetric Protostellar Cores in Planar Magnetic Interstellar Clouds: Formulation of the Problem and Linear Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We formulate the problem of the formation and collapse of nonaxisymmetric protostellar cores in weakly ionized, self-gravitating, magnetic molecular clouds.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Internal Initiative vs External Pressure: Evidence from Halal Standard Adoption in Indonesian Food Small and Medium Industries (SMIs)

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Halal Research
This research's focal points are identifying key factors of halal food standards (HFS) in small-medium industries (SMIs) in Padang and exploring the roles of traceability systems in compliance with the halal assurance system (HAS).

Dual regulator controls two gases from a single reference [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Dual-pressure regulator uses single reference for parallel control of two gases. The regulator uses an external fluid pressure to modulate the flow of one gas, and the regulated flow of the first gas to modulate the flow of the ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

The Ising-Sherrington-Kirpatrick model in a magnetic field at high temperature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We study a spin system on a large box with both Ising interaction and Sherrington-Kirpatrick couplings, in the presence of an external field. Our results are: (i) existence of the pressure in the limit of an infinite box.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Buckling Behavior of Stainless Wave-Shaped Pressure Hulls

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
This study primarily focuses on the buckling behavior of wave-shaped pressure hulls subjected to uniform external pressure. The effect of slant angle on the buckling behavior of hulls was examined.
