The extinction coefficient of multicomponent aerosols

The general problem of visibility reduction by aerosols is explored in order to identify the conditions necessary for determination of the roles of individual chemical species. The particle extinction coefficient depends on the distribution of chemical species with respect to particle size and from particle to particle within each size range.

[Extinction coefficient of thyroglobulin].

The extinction coefficient at 280 nm of the solution (pH 7,2-7,4) of thyroglobulin from normal thyroid and nodular euthyroid goiter was measured with the values of 0,6-0,7 to 0,9 ml.mg-1.cm-1. The value of E1%280 as function of the iodoamino acid content depends on the morphological state of the thyroid gland.

Extinction coefficients for the benzyl radical

The 12B2 → 3 2B2 transition in the absorption spectrum of the benzyl radical has been recorded in the gas phase together with a new band at shorter wavelengths, probably the first Rydberg band of the radical. The radicals formed in the flash photolysis of benzyl chloride and benzyl bromide and subsequent reactions have been investigated.

The following shows that a constant-extinction coefficient at zero concentration—which is the tangent to the extinction–concentration curve at zero concentration, may be calculated even if Lambert–Beer's law is not followed.
