Independence of extracellular tortuosity and volume fraction during osmotic challenge in rat neocortex

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, 2002
The structural properties of brain extracellular space (ECS) are summarised by the tortuosity (λ) and the volume fraction (α). To determine if these two parameters were independent, we varied the size of the ECS by changing the NaCl content to alter osmolality of bathing media for rat cortical slices.

Predicting muscle-invasive bladder cancer with dual-layer detector spectral CT-derived extracellular volume fraction

open access: yesBMC Medical Imaging
Objectives To evaluate the diagnostic performance of dual-layer detector spectral CT (DLCT)-derived extracellular volume fraction (ECV) for pre-operatively distinguishing muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) from non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer ...

Integrated motion-corrected extracellular volume fraction mapping reveals subtle extracellular remodeling in remote myocardium following chronic myocardial infarction

open access: yesBMC Medical Imaging
Background Emerging evidence indicates that diffuse fibrosis in remote myocardium contributes to post-infarction ventricular remodeling, yet conventional late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) lacks sensitivity for extracellular matrix (ECM) quantification ...

Discriminating atypical parotid carcinoma and pleomorphic adenoma utilizing extracellular volume fraction and arterial enhancement fraction derived from contrast‐enhanced CT imaging: A multicenter study

open access: yesCancer Medicine
Objectives To investigate the added value of extracellular volume fraction (ECV) and arterial enhancement fraction (AEF) derived from enhanced CT to conventional image and clinical features for differentiating between pleomorphic adenoma (PA) and ...

Prediction of long-term survival in gastric cancer patients after immunotherapy based on CT-derived extracellular volume fraction

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
BackgroundGastric cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. While immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have emerged as promising therapies, their efficacy is hindered by the lack of robust patient-centric biomarkers.

Performance of dual-layer spectral CT-based extracellular volume fraction to assess Ki-67 proliferation status in rectal cancer: comparison with diffusion kurtosis imaging

open access: yesInsights into Imaging
Objective To evaluate and compare MRI-based diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI), diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and dual-layer spectral CT (DLSCT)-derived extracellular volume (ECV) fraction for predicting the Ki-67 proliferation index in rectal cancer ...

Extracellular volume fraction and native T1 mapping in diabetic cardiomyopathy: a comprehensive meta-analysis

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders
Background Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with myocardial fibrosis (MF), a major contributor to adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR), specifically extracellular volume fraction (ECV) and native T1 ...

Synthetic extracellular volume fraction as an imaging biomarker of the myocardial interstitium without blood sampling: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance
: Background: The calculation of conventional extracellular volume fraction (ECV) requires blood hematocrit (Hct) measurement. Based on the relationship between Hct and blood T1 relaxivity for cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), a synthetic ECV could be ...

Exploration of evaluating the differentiation degree of hepatocellular carcinoma by using extracellular volume fraction

open access: yes肿瘤影像学, 2020
Objective: To explore the value of extracellular volume fraction (fECV) in assessing the degree of differentiation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: A total of 41 patients with HCC diagnosed by surgical pathology and routine liver multi-phase ...
