Supercritical Fluid Chromatography with Photodiode Array Detection in the Determination of Fat-Soluble Vitamins in Hemp Seed Oil and Waste Fish Oil

open access: yesMolecules, 2018
In the presented study for the first time a new, optimized, fast SFC (supercritical fluid chromatography) method was applied to separate in one run fat-soluble vitamins from waste fish oil, including cis-and trans-retinyl palmitate, cis- and trans ...

The extract from Portulaca oleracea L. rehabilitates skin photoaging via adjusting miR-138-5p/Sirt1-mediated inflammation and oxidative stress

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Photoaging is the main form of external skin aging, and ultraviolet radiation is the main cause. Long-term ultraviolet radiation can cause oxidative stress, inflammation, immune responses, and skin cell apoptosis.

Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation is stimulated by red light irradiation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Light at different wavelengths has distinct effects on keratinocyte viability and metabolism. UVA light abrogates metabolic fluxes. Blue and green light have no effect on metabolic fluxes, while red light enhanced oxidative phosphorylation by promoting fatty acid oxidation. Keratinocytes are the primary constituents of sunlight‐exposed epidermis.

Vacuolar transport and function of Saccharomyces cerevisiae sterol ester hydrolase Tgl1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tgl1, one of yeast sterol ester hydrolases, had been found on the lipid droplets where sterol esters are mainly stored. This study revealed that Tgl1 is transported into the vacuole depending on the ESCRT‐I–III complex, and that it exhibits intra‐vacuolar sterol ester hydrolase activity.

Impact of instant controlled pressure drop pre-treatment on solvent extraction of edible oil from rapeseed seeds

open access: yesOilseeds and fats, crops and lipids, 2014
The fundamental analysis and modeling of kinetics of solvent extraction of rapeseed oil enable the quantification of the “washing” and “diffusion” steps. Both are illustrated through “starting accessibility” and “effective diffusivity”

The role of fibroblast growth factors in cell and cancer metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling regulates crucial signaling cascades that promote cell proliferation, survival, and metabolism. Therefore, FGFs and their receptors are often dysregulated in human diseases, including cancer, to sustain proliferation and rewire metabolism.

Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews root extract ameliorates photoaging via regulating IRS1/PI3K/FOXO pathway

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
IntroductionThe root of Paeonia suffruticosa Andrews (P. suffruticosa Andr.), is a traditional Chinese medicine. Numerous studies have shown that it possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-aging effects due to its rich content of bioactive ...

Modeling Light-Extraction Characteristics of Packaged Light-Emitting Diodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We employ a Monte Carlo ray-tracing technique to model light-extraction characteristics of light-emitting diodes. By relaxing restrictive assumptions on photon traversal history, our method improves upon available analytical models for estimating light ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative
