An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Synergistic Extraction of Europium and Americium into Nitrobenzene by Using Hydrogen Dicarbollylcobaltate and Dodecaethylene Glycol

open access: yesActa Chimica Slovenica, 2013
Extraction of microamounts of europium and americium by a nitrobenzene solution of hydrogen dicarbollylcobaltate (H+B-) in the presence of dodecaethylene glycol (DDEG, L) has been investigated.

SAR Absolute Radiometric Calibration Utilizing Offshore Wind Farms With Mask-Based Response Energy Extraction Approach

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
The absolute radiometric calibration of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) using natural point targets holds significant potential. Current natural point targets for calibration are often insufficiently concentrated within a single imaging scene, leading to ...

Determination of Tetracycline in Pharmaceutical Preparation by Molecular and Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry and High Performance Liquid Chromatography via Complex Formation with Au(III) and Hg(II) Ions in Solutions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 2013
UV-visible and atomic spectrophotometry and HPLC techniques were applied for the determination of tetracycline (TC) in pharmaceutical preparations via complexation of the drug with Au(III) and Hg(II) ions in solutions.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Nucleon form factors: From the space-like to the time-like region [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
I discuss how dispersion relations can be used to analyse the nucleon electromagnetic form factors, with particular emphasis on the constraints from unitarity and pQCD.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Dynamical shift condition for unequal mass black hole binaries

open access: yes, 2010
Certain numerical frameworks used for the evolution of binary black holes make use of a gamma driver, which includes a damping factor. Such simulations typically use a constant value for damping.

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

Preliminary assessment of calcium extraction reagents for indirect carbonation

open access: yesCarbon Capture Science & Technology
The ''indirect carbonation'' technique accelerates carbonation in hydroxides, slags, or cementitious materials using calcium extraction reagents (CERs), thereby facilitating carbon capture.
