Development and Optimisation of Solid-Phase Extraction of Extractable and Bound Phenolic Acids in Spelt (Triticum spelta L.) Seeds

open access: yes, 2021
A solid-phase extraction (SPE) technique was developed and optimised for isolation and concentration of extractable and bound phenolic acids from germinated spelt seeds, for analysis by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. Samples initially underwent

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

RELATIVE EFFICIENCIES OF WET AND DRY EXTRACTION TECHNIQUES FOR SAMPLING AQUATIC MACROINVERTEBRATES IN A SUBARCTIC PEATLAND

open access: yes, 1994
Two behavioural extraction techniques, wet and dry extraction, were evaluated as to their relative efficiencies in removing invertebrates from samples of wet peat collected from a fen near Schefferville, Quebec. Dry extraction involved drying a substrate

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Optimal Geometry for Plasmonic Hot-Carrier Extraction in Metal–Semiconductor Nanocrystals

open access: yes, 2023
Plasmon-induced energy and charge transfer from metal nanostructures hold great potential for harvesting solar energy. Presently, the efficiencies of charge-carrier extraction are still low due to the competitive ultrafast mechanisms of plasmon ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Breaking Recovery Bottlenecks in Long-Chain Dicarboxylic Acid Extraction: Effect of pH and Solvents

open access: yesSeparations
Efficient recovery of long-chain dicarboxylic acids (LCDAs) from aqueous fermentation broths is a key challenge for the industrial development of bio-based LCDA production.
