Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

DNA extraction for streamlined metagenomics of diverse environmental samples
A major bottleneck for metagenomic sequencing is rapid and efficient DNA extraction. Here, we compare the extraction efficiencies of three magnetic bead−based platforms (KingFisher, epMotion, and Tecan) to a standardized column-based extraction platform ...

An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

An ionic liquid extraction process for the separation of indole from wash oil
Indole is an important industrial substance derived from wash oil, and the traditional alkali fusion method causes serious environmental problems. In this research, imidazolium-based ionic liquids (IBILs) were developed as new extraction agents to ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Azocalixarene. 5: p-Substituted Azocalix4arenes as Extractants for Dichromate Anions [PDF]
In this article, chromium(VI) extraction properties of two azocalix4arene based receptors (L4 and L6) are reported. A preliminary evaluation of the binding efficiencies of p-substituted azocalix4arene derivatives L4 and L6 was carried out by solvent ...
