Extractive Fermentation of Ethanol from Sweet Sorghum Using Vacuum Fractionation Technique: Optimization and Techno-Economic Assessment

open access: yes, 2018
Direct extraction of high purity ethanol from fermentation broth was investigated using a vacuum fractionation technique. Batch and repeated-batch extractive fermentation of ethanol were carried out using concentrated sweet sorghum as a carbon source ...

Palmitoylation of PSD‐95 Orchestrates Learning‐Dependent Metaplasticity in the Amygdala and Fear Memory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that fear learning specifically triggers PICK1/DHHC2‐dependent palmitoylation of PSD‐95 in the lateral amygdala. Fear conditioning induces the dissociation of DHHC5 from PSD‐95 and the association of PSD‐95 with DHHC2. DHHC2‐mediated palmitoylation of PSD‐95 is required for synaptic transmission and underlies fear learning–induced ...

Molecularly Engineered Wing‐Shaped Azobenzene Memristors for Logic‐in‐Memory and Edge Visual Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Rational engineering of terminal substituents in symmetric azobenzene‐based molecules enables precise control over conformationally coupled charge‐transfer processes. This design yields tunable nonvolatile resistive memory behaviors, ranging from write‐once‐read‐many‐times (WORM) to rewritable switching.

Single‐Cell Profiling Identifies SLC2A5‐Mediated Fructose Metabolism as a Vulnerability in Primary CNS Lymphoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glucose deprivation in the primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) tumor microenvironment drives SLC2A5 (encoding GLUT5)‐dependent fructose metabolism in tumor cells, while hypoxia induces HIF‐mediated SLC2A5 expression in tumor‐supportive macrophages, revealing SLC2A5‐driven fructose utilization as a shared and targetable metabolic vulnerability across malignant

A novel extractive fermentation process for lactic acid

open access: yes, 1989
In order to produce lactic acid directly with high productivity, we have developed a novel extractive fermentation process combining lactic acid production by two-step pH manipulation and extraction of lactic acid by poly(4-vinylpyridine) resin.

Solvent-based approaches to evaluate the ABE extractive fermentation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The reindustrialization of ABE fermentation is hampered by significant production costs, linked to high product inhibition and limited intrinsic yield. The reduction of these costs depends on the effective application of integrated toxic product removal ...

Lactate‐Driven Restriction of Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Promotes Resistance to Chemo‐Immunotherapy by Suppressing Tumor PANoptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tumor‐derived lactate establishes a metabolic lock that drives chemo‐immunotherapy resistance by suppressing PANoptosis. Mechanistically, KAT8 lactylates the mitochondrial translocator ANT2, which recruits PGAM5 to dephosphorylate CypD. This cascade restricts mitochondrial permeability transition pore opening, preventing pro‐inflammatory mtDNA leakage.
