Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Azimuthal instabilities on extremal Kerr [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
We prove the existence of instabilities for the geometric linear wave equation on extremal Kerr spacetime backgrounds, which describe stationary black holes rotating at their maximally allowed angular velocity.

The tail dependence of the carbon markets: The implication of portfolio management.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Emission trading scheme (ETS), the most popular market-based instrument, is widely used to solve carbon emission problems in the world. With the development of carbon market, carbon asset has been a popular financial product to invest and the risk ...

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Remarks on nonperturbative perturbations

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We consider the linearized perturbations of near-horizon extremal Reissner-Nordström black holes in d-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Gauss-Bonnet gravity and seven-dimensional third-order Lovelock gravity.

S-duality, entropy function and transport in AdS 4 /CMT 3

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
In this paper we consider Abelian vector plus scalar holographic gravity models for 2+1 dimensional condensed matter transport, and the effect of S-duality on them. We find the transport coefficients from the electric and heat currents via usual membrane

A note on Hamilton sequences for extremal Beltrami coefficients [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 2000
F. P. Gardiner gave a sufficient condition for a sequence to be a Hamilton sequence for an extremal Beltrami coefficient. In this note, we shall consider the converse problem, proving that the condition is not necessary.

On the conjunctive capacity of graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The investigation of the asymptotic behaviour of various graph parameters in powers of a fixed graph G=(V,E) is motivated by problems in information theory and extremal ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Love numbers of black p-branes: fine tuning, Love symmetries, and their geometrization

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We compute scalar static response coefficients (Love numbers) of non-dilatonic black p-brane solutions in higher dimensional supergravity. This calculation reveals a fine-tuning behavior similar to that of higher dimensional black holes, which we explain
