Biomimetic Extreme‐Temperature‐ and Environment‐Adaptable Hydrogels
ChemPhysChem, 2019AbstractRecently, temperature‐resistant hydrogels, hydrogels which are freezing‐ and dehydration‐resistant, have garnered considerable attention in the scientific community as they extend the rage of application of hydrogels to arid and/or cold environments. Besides, these hydrogels exhibit tunable conductivity and mechanical performance while offering

On the Biomimetic Design of the Berkeley Lower Extremity Exoskeleton (BLEEX)
Proceedings of the 2005 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2006Many places in the world are too rugged or enclosed for vehicles to access. Even today, material transport to such areas is limited to manual labor and beasts of burden. Modern advancements in wearable robotics may make those methods obsolete. Lower extremity exoskeletons seek to supplement the intelligence and sensory systems of a human with the ...

Preparation of monolithic silica–chitin composite under extreme biomimetic conditions
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 2015Chitin is a widespread renewable biopolymer that is extensively distributed in the natural world. The high thermal stability of chitin provides an opportunity to develop novel inorganic-organic composites under hydrothermal synthesis conditions in vitro.

Biomimetic design and biomechanical simulation of a 15-DOF lower extremity exoskeleton
2013 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2013Lower extremity exoskeletons can improve human strength and endurance with a pair of wearable robotic legs that support a payload. This paper summarizes the biomimetic design and biomechanical analysis of a novel 15-DOF (degree of freedom) lower extremity exoskeleton.

An extreme biomimetic approach: hydrothermal synthesis of β-chitin/ZnO nanostructured composites
Journal of Materials Chemistry B, 2013β-Chitinous scaffolds isolated from the skeleton of marine cephalopod Sepia officinalis were used as a template for the in vitro formation of ZnO under conditions (70 °C) which are extreme for biological materials. Novel β-chitin/ZnO film-like composites were prepared for the first time by hydrothermal synthesis, and were thoroughly characterized using

This work presents an extreme biomimetics route for the creation of nanostructured biocomposites utilizing a chitinous template of poriferan origin. The specific thermal stability of the nanostructured chitinous template allowed for the formation under hydrothermal conditions of a novel germanium oxide-chitin composite with a defined nanoscale ...

Biomimetic titanium dioxide film with structural color and extremely stable hydrophilicity
Applied Physics Letters, 2004We biomimeticly fabricated titanium dioxide films with three-dimensionally ordered structure. These films exhibit structural color, photocatalysis, and photoinduced superhydrophilicity. In addition, this biomimetic approach solves the problem of the stability of the superhydrophilicity of titanium dioxide.
