Extreme Rainfall Events in the Hawaiian Islands
Journal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology, 2009AbstractHeavy rainfall and the associated floods occur frequently in the Hawaiian Islands and have caused huge economic losses as well as social problems. Extreme rainfall events in this study are defined by three different methods based on 1) the mean annual number of days on which 24-h accumulation exceeds a given daily rainfall amount, 2) the value ...

Trends in extreme rainfall events of Bangladesh
Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 2010A study of the variability of the extreme rainfall events in Bangladesh during the time period 1958–2007 has been carried out in this paper. Quality-controlled homogeneous daily precipitation records of nine stations distributed over Bangladesh are used for the study. A total of 15 annual and seasonal indices of rainfall are examined.

On the Probability of Extreme Rainfall Events
Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society, 1973In recent years, the terms, “once-in-a-century” and 100-year, have been attached to various rare and catastrophic events; recent examples are the rains associated with Hurricane Agnes and the 1972 Rapid City storm. The background for the use of these terms is examined from the points of view of both the professional and nonprofessional user.

Capturing extreme rainfall events in Kerayong catchment
2005ABSTRACT This paper will discuss the extreme event of recorded rainfall in the Kerayong river catchment which has been categorised as sub-urban catchment with rapid growth rate due to urbanisation process. From the two years data collected in the catchment, the analysis will determine the number of storm events, distribution of rainfall in the ...

Extreme Daily Rainfall Event Distribution Patterns in Kansas
Journal of Hydrologic Engineering, 2014AbstractThe Rainfall Frequency Atlas (TP40) was last updated for Kansas in 1961, using weather data from 1911 to 1958. Rainfall information contained in the atlas is the basis for important engineering and hydrologic design decisions in the state. With growing concern about the effects of global climate change and predictions of more extreme weather ...

Analysis of extreme rainfall events over Nethravathi basin
ISH Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2014India gets three fourths of its annual rainfall during the south-west monsoon season (June–September). The study of extreme events is significant in the stochastic behaviour of rainfall pattern. The aim of the present work is to compare different methods; and find a suitable method to study extreme rainfall trend analysis.

The global interdependence patterns of extreme-rainfall events
As a powerful data-driven technology, the complex network paradigm has contributed significantly to the studies of spatio-temporal patterns of climate phenomena at different scales, such as El Niño–Southern Oscillation, Indian Ocean Dipole, and monsoon.Zhen Su +2 more
