Extreme value theory applied to the auroral electrojet indices

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics
The study of extreme weather and space events has gained paramount importance in modern society owing to rapid advances in high technology. Understanding and describing exceptional occurrences plays a crucial role in making decisive assessments of their ...

Estimating and Forecasting Conditional Risk Measures with Extreme Value Theory: A Review

open access: yesRisks, 2018
One of the key components of financial risk management is risk measurement. This typically requires modeling, estimating and forecasting tail-related quantities of the asset returns’ conditional distribution.

Cracking the Code: Genotype–Phenotype Correlation Models in Sarcoglycanopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Sarcoglycanopathies are among the most severe limb‐girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMD), though milder presentations have been described. These diseases are primarily caused by missense variants, but the limited predictability of their effect on protein maturation, complex formation, and transport has hindered reliable genotype ...

Cramer-von Mises and Anderson-Darling goodness of fit tests for extreme value distributions with unknown parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
The use of goodness of fit tests based on Cramer-von Mises and Anderson-Darling statistics is discussed, with reference to the composite hypothesis that a sample of observations comes from a distribution, FH, whose parameters are unspecified.

Elevated Connectivity During Language Processing Is Associated With Cognitive Performance in SeLECTS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Self‐Limited Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (SeLECTS) is associated with language impairments despite seizures originating in the motor cortex, suggesting aberrant cross‐network interactions. Here we tested whether functional connectivity in SeLECTS during language tasks predicts language performance.

Relationship Between Neurologic Symptoms and Signs and FMR1 Genotype in Premutation Carriers

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Fragile X‐associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome (FXTAS) is the most severe late‐onset condition caused by a premutation in the FMR1 gene, characterized by expanded CGG triplet repeats of 55–200. Clinical presentations of FXTAS, including gait ataxia, kinetic tremor, cognitive decline, and rare Parkinsonism, are linked to ...

Remarkable Recovery After Delayed High‐Dose Methylprednisolone in a Rare Case of Penetrating Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) caused by sharp‐force penetration is exceptionally rare, and the use of high‐dose methylprednisolone (MP) remains highly controversial, especially beyond the conventional 8‐h treatment window. This case report describes a 30‐year‐old male with acute incomplete TSCI following a knife stab wound to the right ...

Value at Risk and Conditional Extreme Value Theory via Markov Regime Switching Models

open access: yes, 2008
This study develops a new conditional extreme value theory-based (EVT) model that incorporates the Markov regime switching process to forecast extreme risks in the stock markets.

An Extreme Value Theory for Sequence Matching

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 1986
Suppose there are two finite sequences \(X_ 1,X_ 2,...,X_ m\) and \(Y_ 1,Y_ 2,...,Y_ n\) where the letters \(\{X_ i\}\) and \(\{Y_ j\}\) are chosen i.i.d. on a countable alphabet with \(p=P\{X_{\ell}=Y_{\ell}\}\in (0,1)\). This paper studies the distribution of the longest contiguous run of matches between the X's and Y's, allowing at most k mismatches.

Movement Disorders in Aicardi–Goutières Syndrome and Response to Immunomodulation

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study characterizes movement disorders and treatment responses in seven children with Aicardi–Goutières syndrome (AGS). We retrospectively evaluated motor phenotypes, neuroimaging, and interferon signatures in patients treated with baricitinib or anifrolumab. Spasticity affected all patients, while dystonia was present in 4/7.
